Great game to watch even if you aren't a fan of either team, but a fan of basketball. Though we lost it was a great game to watch. With that said I'll start off by saying Westbrook is a hell of a player. Prior to this game we made life difficult for Rose and Jennings on back to back nights; which brings me to why I think we lost this game. We looked flat out tired in the second half.

In the first half we pushed the ball for 14 fast-break points and out-rebounded OKC. In the second half they were able to catch up on the rebounding especially offensive rebounds and we stopped running the ball.
It's only going to get tougher from here, we've got a pretty grueling schedule ahead of us. Saturday against Toronto at home then travel to LA and play them the next day against the 2 time defending champs Lakers. 2 days from that against the pistons and 3 days after a rematch against OKC.

Props to Westbrooke, he's better than Durant.  I don't get why Durant gets all the credit, he'd be nothing without Westbrooke.

But still, the Blazers simply quit.  They took bad shot selection, didn't pass the ball to each other, and looked hopeless.  I noticed a loss when the Thunder cut it to 6.  We had no momentum and no intelligence, really.  I feel like they quit on me.  They should have blown this pretender out of the building, and never took advantage of it.  Proved to me tonight the Blazers aren't ready to be an elite team.

Yeah I agree, not that we got outplayed the whole second half, but just the fourth quarter was a dominating performance by the Thunder, as the looked a lot better than we did. I also agree the Westbrook is a beast, and I knew that even his sophomore year at UCLA that we was going to be real in the NBA. I also think that Kevin Durant is the main reason they won..... just look at his stats and the big shots he made in the second half. They have a killer combo in Durant/Westbrook... definitely one of the best one-two punches in the NBA, I don't care what any of the fans say that think Durant is over rated, as he showed against us, he's not.  We just got beat down in one quarter and overtime. Out-rebounded and couldn't hit a shot in overtime. That's the game right there.  We're 4-2 though with an "easier" game, if there is such thing in the NBA, ahead in a couple of days. Rest up and make it 5-2 on Saturday (after my ducks go to 9-0), then I'll be happy and move on.
    Tough loss to swallow though.....
Are overtime loses so much worse emotionally than getting blown out, or is that just me?
I am a fan of winning.

I'm puttin' this loss on the lower deck fans.

You don't think I could be serious right?

    • You had big chunks of empty seats. If those folks couldn't show, those tickets should've been given to upper deckers that can scream, or better yet, give those tickets to charity.
    • I saw little kids with courtside seats playing Nintedo DS with a minute to go in a very close contest, paying absolutely no attention to the basketball game.
    • You had to many people sitting, and not enough fans on their feet screaming.

It was easy to tell where the noise was coming from on the TNT broadcast. It was coming from the 300's. Now I know there's a lot of good, wholesome, loud fans in the lower deck. If this messege bothers you, then obviously you were one of the quiet fans. Our guys were doggin', they needed a spark, that's something the lower level folks need to realize. You can make a difference. You're closer to the court, and will be heard first. When you see the Blazers with tired legs, that's when your energy is needed the most. Quit tweeting and watch how pro's play basketball, you might learn something.

I am a fan of multiple All-Stars on the Blazers roster this season!

Like I said the prior road trip took a toll on us physically. It's apparent 14 fast break points in the first half and just 4 in the second? It says it right there.

We had to to stop the ball at key moments of the game and we let OKC drive it right down the middle to the basket - seriously annoying!!

Alright, let's talk about how the game went.

Slow start, Thunder came out making jumpshots.  The Blazers were going into LMA, like they should, but their defense sucked.  In the 2nd quarter, Blazers got things rolling, and improved their defense, winning by 7 at halftime.  They improved their lead to 13, and Scott Brooks took a timeout.  What did Nate do at that timeout? HE CHANGED THE LINEUP.  You almost *NEVER* change your lineup after forcing your opponent to take a timeout.  Nate did.  As good as our players are, they failed at defense, and that 13 point lead was GONE.  The starters came in and got things rolling again, but the Thunder stuck behind.  In the pressure, the Blazers took STUPID shots to try to get the crowd in.  WHY DID THEY TAKE THOSE SHOTS!?  The Thunder force overtime.

Every possession I could see every player looking nervous and shaken up.  They look terrible, and inexperienced there.  The Thunder did no better, except Westbrook, who is as predictable as Durant.  Batum, Miller, and Mathews failed at their defensive roles today.  The combined 56 points easily proves that.  In Overtime, we couldn't score.  All our points, except Johnsons last second three, were from the free throw line.  Granted, so was OKC, but they attacked the rim and earned their trips.  What did Portland do?  Take wild, contested retarded shots.

It was an embarassing loss, and we lost it ourselves.  This team is far better than the Thunder.  There was no defense, there was no teamwork (how many assists were there in the final 17 minutes of regulation?), and no communication.

The worse part of it all, is we lost to a team I'm 100% sure we could beat.  We beat ourselves tonight.  Give some credit to the Thunder, they played a hell of a game, but F.F.S... the Blazers are just frustrating to watch.

I'm worried about Roy.  He looked stupid in the final 10 seconds of the fourth.  Normally, if I saw him on the streets I'd thank him for reviving the team and city for sports.  Today, I'd ask him "WHAT THE **** WERE YOU DOING??".

We looked inexperienced, non elite, and stupid... AGAINST A BOTTOM FEEDER TEAM!  We made a huge fool of ourselves on NATIONAL TELEVISION.  So much for getting rid of the "OMFG DURANT MVP"talks that annoy everyone.

I remember Mike Barrett saying once during a broadcast, in which the Blazers came back from getting dominated by a mediocre team.  He said "This is what separates the elite teams from the non elite teams.  If this was the Celtics, they'd have stepped on the throat and give no chances of a comeback."  What did we do tonight when we were up double digits?  We let the Thunder bandage their wounds and let them win.

We're not an elite team, and we played like garbage.  We have the talent on this team to be elite.  Sadly, after tonight, we don't have the mental capacity to be one.

I play basketball A LOT.  One thing that frustrates me when I play is a teammate taking a dumb shot.  If I was on the Blazers, I'd be very frustrated.  Hell, I'm a hardcore fan, and I'm STILL pissed yet the game ended two hours ago.

Westbrook is the real deal. He is alot of fun to watch. I enjoy him over Durant (Man, I would have been mad if that no-call on Durant shoving off would have went for points.) It was a great game to watch, I agree. And yes, Overtime losses are much harder for some reason. (Utah last year, up by 25 in the second half. Anyone remember that? Ugh. Try being in the building watching that.)

All this ill feeling toward our team right now by us would have been erased if Roy would have driven to the basket in the final seconds of the 4th. Drive and dish or take it hard to the rim, but do not settle for the jumper. True it works for Roy many times but it's not the highest % shot. If you pull a kobe and look to be aggressive at the end of the game and go to the basket you get foul calls or the bucket. We only had to have one point to win, so to settle for the Jumper was a bad decision and shows that our team needs more of an attack the basket mentality. Settling for the Jumper is our team's crutch. It's just simple math, The option is what the player does, like a jumper or a drive, the number means the hypothetical outcome of what the player who takes the shot can rationally expect to happen. E.G.,

    Jumpers = 1 (only a 50/50 it goes in)

Driving = 6 (1. it goes in, 2. you get fouled and you miss, 3. you make and you get fouled, 4. you drive and dish and someone else puts it in, 5. you drive and shoot and miss, but you are there for the rebound, 6. you drive and miss but are there for the put back
We can go on forever with the hypothetical point is, wise basketball players know the percentages and play them because it leads to the best outcomes most of the time. Roy is becoming a wise player, so I think he'll see the tape and learn that at that time (seconds left in the 4th) it's driving time.

Marcus Camby - Hit his open shots. Rebounded as usual. Had sweet alley oop passes to aldridge. Dove on the floor for a loose ball and called timeout. I hated watching him give Harden the "And1" on the fast break. But overall, he did his job.

Aldridge - Looked unstoppable in the first quarter and beginning of the 3rd. I feel like he disappears in the 2nd half of games. His ppg would go up probably by 5 pts if he attacked the rim, and got to the free throw line more. Only 4 Rebs for him today =/ He also fouled out, but i feel like he played solid Defense today and didn't give up easy buckets. He did his job for the most part, but there's room for improvement. He did enough to put the team in position to win. The alley oops to Aldridge have been very effective so far this year. He probably leads the league in alley oops made. I hope Greg will also learn to add that to his arsenal this season.

Batum - He did his job today. He didn't back down against Durant. (regardless of the fact that durant still tore it up). Batum's offensive game is very simple (in a bad way). He scores a lot on fast breaks, which is great. He also scores by hitting wide open 3s which is also great. But he should learn to penetrate and kick. Every time he receives a pass, he looks to shoot or pass, but does NOT look to penetrate. THAT's neglecting 1/3 of the triple threat position. I believe this is one of the reasons the offense looks stagnant at times. But hey, maybe Nate doesn't really want that in the offense. He probably just wants Nic to look for his shot, and if it's not there, move the ball without dribbling it (bc the ball moves around faster via pass VS. via dribbling). I will say that of all the starters, Batum moves the most without the ball. Rudy is VERY good about that too. Wesley as well.

Andre - Honestly, he did his job too. 16 pts, 11 assts, 6 rebs. Westbrook killed us with his offensive rebounding and put backs. He also got to the free throw line a LOT. Maybe there's no stopping his penetration really. He's gonna score by layups, dunks, jumpers, free throws. He's also going to help others score with his penetration. But the one thing that CAN be controlled is BOXING HIM OUT WHEN A SHOT GOES UP!!! That's where Andre can and could've improved.

Bench -  Armon did fine. Dante did fine. Based off the stat sheet wesley did well. When he first came in the game, he provided a nice spark. However, when he came in the game in the 2nd half, it was brick city. His jumpers have been pretty nasty looking so far this season. He scores well on fast breaks and when he penetrates, where he'll either make the 5 footers or get to the line. I saw him miss a KEY box out toward the end of the game on westbrook.

    B. ROY -  This guy needs to find his swagger. There's a lot of things bugging me about the way he's playing this season. 1. I watch him on defense and he processes things very slowly; to the point where by the time he figures it out, it's too late. 2. I hate watching players penetrate hard, jump in the air, and then look for an open teammate. (ahem .. bayless). Brandon did this a couple times today and a few times in previous games this season. Too many turnovers for a player so skilled. 3. He doesn't box out consistently enough. 4. He doesn't move without the ball enough 5. I hate watching him slow the ball down during a potential fast break. PUSH IT B! 6. He's passing too much. He knows his role, but i don't think he's living up to his role. He needs to take over the game when the team needs him to. He has an offensive skill set that has a very high success rate. 3 keys to his game are 1. his handles keep defenders off balance 2. he knows how to create contact and get to the line. 3. He's a deadly from anywhere on the floor. Formula for "unstoppable-ness".

The last thing that could have possibly contributed to the loss tonight: no depth at the center position. They got outworked in the second half. Maybe they really were tired. No excuses tho.

I don't necessarily love the style of offense we run, but it was a good enough offense to win the game today. The types of offenses we run, they work to an extent. The key is, the players have to 1. make the right decisions (like passing to the open man when the double team comes for example) which they did and 2. the shots have to be falling. If our starters are having ice cold shooting nights, and they aren't getting to the rim or free throw line either, we're done for. Basically, the only penetration for the blazers comes from dribble drive when the shot clock is winding down. It's rarely off of cuts.

I watched the game twice today. Two things: 1. in the 2nd half, shots were not falling. They were pretty good quality shots. OKC defense wasn't very disruptive. 2. Defensive rebounding was terrible. If the shots were falling in the 2nd half it could have off set the bad rebounding.

    Key plays:
    1. 98-100 OKC trying to tie. Nic on Durant. Lots of defensive rotations/switches (it was somewhat zone) Camby comes over to help nic with durant, which meant westbrook was free to dive in for an offensive tip in. If camby woulda stayed home and boxed westbrook out, a blazer probably would have gotten the ball. Westbrook missed the tip, but Ibaka got the next crack at it bc BROY didn't box him out very well. That's kinda understandable if Ibaka is taller than Roy. But all the rotations and the help defense can bite you in the butt. Ibaka and Westbrook killed on offensive glass tonight especially in the 2nd half. That sounds like part bad coaching and part player laziness/fatigue.

    2. Blazers down by 1 OKC killing time in OT. Durant misses but Andre (lookin dead tired or dead lazy) misses the box out on Westbrook which eventually leads to immediate foul of Durant. Blazers down 3 after free throws.

    3. Wesley matthews at the line in overtime coulda cut the lead to 1. But he made one and missed one, therefore down by 2. Westbrook makes free throws then down by 4. Armon makes 3pt shot and we lose by 1. What i'm saying is, there was potential to go to a 2nd OT.

I believe the answer to the blazers reaching their full potential this year is: get greg and joel back. And then the entire team needs to review a few of their fundamentals and not play like it's a pick up game. Disciplined boxing out on EVERY SHOT. And also don't underestimate the power of HARD cuts and SOLID SCREENS. Those two fundamentals looked half-assed. Fatigue may have been a factor, but no excuses.

I will end by saying that i DID in fact see a lot of good things from the blazers today. Consistency is the name of the game. They just need to be hitting on all cylinders.

props to westbrook? for what? being the best cheater? i watched him go over the back multiple times for rebounds and i watched him elbow miller in the head for one. I watched kevin durrant SHOVE batum out of the way to get open because he was being guarded so well.

my post game reaction? the blazers can demolish ANY team in this league 5 on 5 but not 5 on 8. this was yet another horrendous job by the refs to completely hand the game over to the "favorite"

Another reaction. Im sick of watching TNT and ESPN games where the announcers are ALWAYS biased to the "favorite team" brandon roy sinks a 3 with 2players and a ref in his face, no big deal. OH MY GOD WESTBROOK WITH A REBOUND THIS KID DOES EVERYTHING HOW DO YOU STOP HIM.

david stern? you want respect for the game? coming in like hitler and demanding respect isnt the way to do it. i've watched players completely loose any kind of passion they once had for the game. it truly is just a business now.  I hope there is a lock out next year.

My thoughts exactly... I was just shocked watching it unfold in front of me. Like OKC scored 10 points in a second. OKC had no answer for LA in the third and then we never went back to him. Bad loss for portland at home after a strong road trip. I'm just glad its November and not April. Lot more season left and we're not going to win them all.

What a discouraging loss.  People can say it's early in the season but I'm seeing the same ol' mistakes that suggest McMillan doesn't get it.  I was really upset with the lack of ball movement towards the end of the 4th and in overtime.  I'm so sick of our guys curling off of high screens to get the ball and then just standing there, and dribbling, and dribbling, and then chucking up a shot or going to the hoop and having 2 defenders challenge them.  This is the exact same stuff that killed us last year and it's happening all over again.  And what makes it even more difficult to watch is when you see how we dominated the game when we were moving the ball, causing the defense to shift, and finding open looks and lanes.
I HAVE to know, does McMillan not see it?  Or he's telling them to do it and they are not executing it?  I have to think he's the one calling the Iso down the stretch because they are coming out of timeouts and having Roy isolated at the top of the key and doing whatever he wants.
What happened when they actually ran a different play?  Matthews gets the ball at the top of key, Roy did some movement to shift the D and Wes feinted to him and got a open lane and then got to the line.  Wow, it was revolutionary!

You can NOT let Westbrook double digit rebound !!  How easy is to defend the Blazers at the end of a game, when EVERYONE knows the ball is going to Roy ?  Great game, wrong final score.

Agreed, we were winning off of ball movement, and finding the open man.  Isolation play is for teams that only have 1 or 2 good players, but when your whole team is talented you have the luxury at playing basketball the way it was meant to be played.  I was so discouraged by what I saw at the end of the game last night because it was the exact same mistakes we've been making every year, and it is clearly Nate's fault.  They are running these Iso's out of timeouts, which means he's the one drawing these so called plays (not really a play, "Roy you push off your man and get the ball at the top of the key, and then chuck up a shot").  I give credit to Nate's defensive coaching and that's why he coaches the DEFENSE on the national team.  When it comes to his offensive play calling, it is disappointing.  One would hope that he would have figured it out that these Iso play shoots us in the foot down the stretch, but after 5 seasons and he's still calling those plays, I no longer hope for him to change.

Portland gave OKC this game if not in the 4th, they made sure of it in OT.
But im sure the Players, much like their fans, underestimated the Thunder.
I dont understand this Kobe Durant show, that he has been doing this season, with these wack shots and all the three's please, but none the less, he still got a Double Dub.

Jeff Green, Durant, Westbrook, thats all they needed, i mean Durant and Westbrook had together, more than half of the teams points, when it got to the 4th.
There was no defense on Russel Westbrook, nor was there any blocking out, "they forgot about Dre" haha.
Westbrook played so smart, getting that 6th foul against Aldridge. Go ahead, watch it again if you dont believe me, the kid looks back to see if LaMarcus is coming, and BOOM, gone, best player(currently) and the game, gone.

There was just a lack of movement from this constipated offense in the 4th, and OT.
The blazers had missed all of their shots in OT for more than half the duration, there was ALOT of STANDING around by ALOT of PEOPLE.
I think the Thunder played exeptionally well, i really missed the boat on the " lets not pass anymore" rule, but none the less they did win.
The Blazers, lack of offense in the late, and really this bench or better yet, lack of one, is killing this team.

No one really sees that our team is tired? Go look at our past schedule then go look at OKC. They had simply the fresher legs. In a playoff series I'm 100% sure that we will win in no more than 6 games. OKC is inferior to us when we are healthy.

Of course they are tired, Roy and LA log the 2nd and 3rd most minutes in the league.  We need a big man back to give LA some rest, and this is what happens when "  Roy needs the ball in his hands more " .
My beef is still that Westbrook owned Dre, and killed us on the glass.

Yes, I agree with You Bertram , the team is tired, in 4 quarter and in OT it was really visible. When both teams are playing at equal level such details make win for one team. It was closed, but ... so get rest and win next match , Go Blazers !

Man, It's not the end of the world!!!! I thought we played pretty good until OT. OKC didn't have a lead after the 1st period until OT, we scored 106 points and we were one shot away from a win on the first game back from a road trip against a good hungry team. Slight tweaks here and there and we are going to be fine. Nate will look at tape and see the mistakes and he will coach through them.

as a long time NBA and Blazer fan im half tempted to quit watching all together.
There were a couple obvious fouls by Durant that they didn't bother to call. And that one when Westbrook hit Dre in the face pissed me off too. How do the refs always "not" see the fouls committed against us?

And TNT is ridiculous, that's all they talked about was how the Thunder needs to do this or that to get back into the game. Then when they are back in it they are doing what they are supposed to, and no mention of the Blazers doing anything.

Also I think we were tired, the NBA even treats us like garbage in our schedule. We have 21 back to back games, whereas the Lakers have a measly 12!! That is a huge difference. We started the season off with a back to back. We've already had another one. Oh and when we play the Lakers on Sunday it will be our third already!!

But being tired is no excuse for Brandon taking a highly contested three pointer instead of at least driving in for either an easier midrange shot or going all the way to get either a layup, a foul or both or pass to someone wide open. That was a terrible play. I still do not understand what he and Nate were thinking! All we needed was a 2, or even one free throw! I don't have a problem with Roy running the whole clock (Like John Lund did on the 5th quarter) because that prevents OKC from having a chance at heaving a lucky last second shot that may go in, but why did he go for a stupid three?

We played terrible in the OT and didn't run one decent offensive play. Maybe we can blame being tired but I think we don't have any decent plays to run even when we are fresh. That's on Nate. We should have won that in regulation.

But I am tempted to quit watching as well. The league does so many things to make it easier for big market teams to win. They get blatant favoritism from the refs. They get easier schedules. You see the blatant affection for the more lucrative teams/players in the league on national tv and in the media. Even David Stern in remembering Maurice Lucas, when speaking of his many accolades, failed to mention he was an NBA Champion!! David Stern also always chooses his words wisely so he left that out on purpose. And it's all things where they can deny because they just have to say "Well only conspiracy theorists believe in that". Then people don't look at it like a business, and all businesses will do whatever it takes to succeed, even if it means unfairly tipping the scales in favor of greater success. That's why there are laws to try and enforce fair practice. It's not because big business doesn't do these things. It's because they do. I don't know why they would have to admit it, it should just be obvious. The NBA is no different, except I'm not sure there are specific laws against them fixing their own league. I hope there is a lockout too, and I hope there are lots of players that are tired of this unfair system not letting them win and they stick  together.

i mean i was at the Thunder vs Clippers game earlier this week.
Joey Crawford, the worst of the worst, was one of the officials i believe.
Durant was doing his show, taking all kinds of wack shots and trying to draw a foul, if anything Griffin was gettin all the calls.
    so....

I never said they were a big market team. But Durant is a big money maker for them. He is a big market player. I never said we lost because of the refs either.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
