Sigh. I was just getting to know Fabricio Oberto, aka Fab, but it sounds as though his all too brief run with the Trail Blazers has come to a close.
Trail Blazers center Fabricio Oberto has announced today that he has retired from the game of basketball due to recurrent palpitations related to a prior cardiac condition.

Oberto experienced lightheadedness and dizziness during the first half of Portland’s game at Milwaukee on Nov. 2.

"I made this decision to put my health and my family in front of basketball," said Oberto. "It was a tough decision to make after playing for so many years, but it was the right one."
I noted during the game chat that there seemed to be something wrong with Fab. Team trainer Jay Jensen gave Fab the thumbs up/thumbs down question during the second half of the game, with Fab giving the universal hand signal for "so-so". When a player gives you the so-so, you know there's something wrong. Players want to play, and Fab is a player.

Guess it's better Fab hangs 'em up now rather than waiting for something serious to happen. Best of luck Fab. I guess I'll never get to start the reoccurring feature I was tentatively calling "The Life And Times Of Fabricio Oberto's Silver Tooth."

So where do we go from here? Fabricio wasn't exactly the linchpin, but he was playing some decent minutes. Do the Blazers go out and find a big to fill the role, or wait until Joel Przybilla comes back around Thanksgiving?

I think we can hold out for Przybilla. This also allows us a little more minutes for Armon, as we'll be forced to go smaller more often until Joel gets back.

At least it isnt his knee.  Time to unleash one of the beasts.  I don't care which one, or what day the media feeds us.

It'd definitely be nice to have another big guy for a few of the games between Pryz's return (Lakers, Denver, Utah). LaMarcus has been working so hard and growing so much and Camby brings so much, it'd be a shame to not allow them some relief, especially against bigger teams.

hold out for Joel. He should come back sooner than he's currently scheduled. He's more than ready to get back out there, and the office's nerves are in the way of him getting back out there translating into confidence and W's.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
