    Via Minneapolis Star Tribune-
According to a league source, the Timberwolves have asked the NBA to look into whether Portland knowingly traded them an injured player when the Blazers dealt Martell Webster to Minnesota for the 16th overall pick in last summer's draft.

Webster on Monday underwent surgery to repair a disk in his back and is expected to miss about six weeks. He said the injury dates to last spring's playoffs, when he was undercut and fell hard in a game against Phoenix.

The Wolves are likely looking for a draft pick as compensation.

I call shenanigans! When we traded Webs, he had to pass their physical in order for the trade to be complete. It is their job to check him out and they gave the trade the go-ahead, so I'm not sure what their beef is?

That is very interesting though. It could help explain why so many players are getting hurt if we can't even figure out that Martell needed surgery, or maybe they knew. So either way that is not good for the Blazers.

Hmmm...i'm with D on this one, but that also looks bad on our trainers and medical staff that they didn't know Martell had something wrong with his back.

Our medical staff is already in the dog house with some of our fans, this news doesn't help their case.

Interesting . . though at first impression it seems they are just trying to get compensation for something they should have thought about before accepting the trade and  yes, if he passed their physical . . . they can't blame us/the team. Yeah, that does make us look bad if our trainers didn't find that problem and as you say BR7, as for our current players, doesn't forebode well.

I didn't know that some of the fans are already disappinted with the medical staff . . was it because of what happened last season?

Trainers arn't going to look for something if they are not told about it. If Martell never said anything about back pain they have no reason to look at his back.

Agree though, this isn't going to look great at all to our training and medical staff.

this is ridiculous. as has been said, he passed the physical. additionally, it wasn't until after he played a few games in their pre-season that his back began to tighten up and the injury came to light. this inquiry should go nowhere.

I would lean toward or staff not really knowing he was hurt. He said he hurt it during the playoffs but did anyone notice a difference in his playing time??? In fact he was our high scorer in games six when he lost with like 18 points or something like that... I don't think they can put this on us, he played great for us until the last game so how would we be able to tell something was up?

additionally ... i think the t-wolves became confused when they heard what Webster said. reports are that upon hearing Websters words, the t-wolves front office looked at each other in confusion and asked in unison: "what are playoffs?"

Not to mention Athletes play hurt all the time...Martel probably along with the Blazers probably didnt even think anything of it. If we cant trade a player because he has a bruise that could be something worse...Than there won't be any trading in the NBA.

Hmmm.  So the Wolves have a player that is going to miss a few games.  Gee, that's awfully rough.  Don't know what WE would do should we ever find ourselves in a similar position.  Perhaps we should look at placing a call to Ohio State and asking about compensation before sending "one of theirs" into the lottery without disclosure.  Think of all that University gained by having a lotto grad (starting with recruiting).

I agree that it doesn't make this organization and it's training staff look good.  One thing I haven't read yet on this thread, and a possible repercussion, is this situation and the effect it may have on FUTURE deals with other teams.

    ....what  a hoot......... :/
What about comletley cutting a player due to an injury, yea it may not seem wrong, pity its not you though right?

I think that webster was wronged when he was traded from here. But my homie, and now i am starting to see it, thinks that Twolves are going to dominate.. The points in the paint, the points between those 3 bigs, with webster chillin out on the 3pt line, then that makes him an accessory.ha. Twolves dont need him, but i dissagree with the "damaged goods"
But Minn is just gonna run with it, an honestly if they offer up a few draft picks, CHO will give em the whole damn team.
Cho could play this season, with a team full of future draft picks, if he had his way. ha.
What portland should do, is Offer up some guys to try and snag one of those bigs, Beasley would be the best one we could get, he could age with the rest of the team, but Darko and Love are both smiles as well.

Beasley a Blazer?  No.  We've already had one too many players get caught smoking something out of a Coke can in the back seat of a car in Lake O.  Been there, done that.  Never been a fan of love (or Love) either.

    What are you talking about?
What do you care more about, presonal preference of type of players? or Youre team's success?
I mean not every player can be an
    Oxford or Cambridge graduate?
Beasley could easily boost this teams rating to like #8 at least. I mean if it were up to you, like you personally, would you keep two broken down, beat up centers, that you honestly dont know if one of them will ever get better, or would you rather have a player that can play multiple big positions, score in a number of methods, who has the hands of a PG?
Really, you dont have to be an Oxford Grad to know the correct answer to that  :D

I think he's referring to the 'Jail Blazers' era. But I agree with him, I just don't think Beasley would fit, and Darko is a bust so why would we want to have him? But I think having Love would help us in very good ways.

I heard Martell was playing very good for them in the preseason. Coach Rambis was always one of the leagues whiniest players. Martell will be back for the T-Wolves, in case they want to make a playoff push this season.
