Training Camp has officially started! And the first pre-season game is just 7 days away against the Clippers at the Rose Garden. Put everything related to Trail Blazers Training Camp in this thread.

What are the competition battles you're most looking forward to seeing? Can Bayless earn the minutes he had in the playoffs against the Suns? Will any of the rookies shine bright enough to crack the rotation? Without Oden for a little bit, who will step up to help out LA and Camby down low?

    Highlights of Media Day:

-Oden has been reported by Dwight Jaynes as having patellar tendonitis
-Rudy doesn't want a trade, rather a release to play closer to home
-Batum welcomes the addition of Matthews
-Oden won't be ready to go by opening night
-LMA didn't add 20 lbs of muscle, more like 5-10
-Brandon said he felt the most relaxed he's felt heading into a season
-Is it me, or does Joel look a lot younger/slimmer?

I heard Dwight say that this morning but havent read that anywhere else.  Did he say what his source was? However, I do find him pretty reputable so that sucks.  Do any current NBA players have patellar tendonitis and still play?  Poor Oden.

Patellar tendonitis is treatable, and luckily surgery is rare for it to actually be treated.

Good grief it's starting already with Oden this season :(

I'm looking forward to seeing JBay and EW/WM  battle for  minutes.  Even with the new mustache JBay has his work cut out for him, imo.

I watched Joels interview twice, couldn't really tell about his weight, but I wish Oden had half his heart.  Can't wait to see big Joel on the court again !!

Best thing for Oden is to rest that knee. It seems like its just stressed from the workouts. GuitarJ, your cute:) and a Blazer fan..sigh.

Actually this is good news if you can believe it. Now they know what is causing his good and bad days. Like the above poster stated, this is easily treatable and preventable once treatment has been induced. Once he gets his weight down a bit, he'll be fine.

The latest on Patty, courtesy of Blazersedge-
"I'm coming here because I got drafted here," Mills told me today. "I love Portland, but it is a full roster. For me [camp is about] coming in to keep learning. Now that I'm healthy, it's my first training camp just to get out there and keep playing. You can't ask for more than that. Right now we'll just see how it unfolds."

Mills confirmed reports from this summer that he has received international offers. "There have been some offers overseas," he said before reiterating that his first priority is sticking in the NBA. "That's how it's going to be. We've let those people who have offered overseas we've let them know that."

Mills said that the NBDL is "definitely not" an option that he is considering if he doesn't make the Blazers roster. But it's not Portland or bust. "There is a backup plan," Mills admitted. "But we're going to go through the whole Plan A first before we even start thinking about anything else. All of the options are still open."

Any ideas on what his backup plan is? Unfortunately, unless there's a trade, there's no room for Patty. I do hope we find somehow, someway to get him on the roster. He's a great character guy, good to have in the locker room, and he won't make a fuss if he's not playing (always the perfect trait for role players). Great insurance at the guard position to I might add.

In Day Two, Rudy Injures back via Oregon Live-
Trail Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez injured his back during a scrimmage Wednesday and did not participate in the latter parts of practice.

“Rudy was in a scrimmage, went up, blocked a shot -- unbelievable block -- and came down, and he had a hard fall that took him out of practice,” Blazers coach Nate McMillan said.

Several people who saw the play -- which happened before the media were allowed in -- raved about Fernandez’s block, which reportedly came on rookie Armon Johnson. They said the fall was loud enough that the thump could be heard throughout the practice facility’s four courts.

“He got his legs caught and he came down really hard,” McMillan said.

I really hope it's nothing serious. Regardless of his rank on the team (2nd or 3rd string), I don't want anyone getting injured or setting up another domino effect which we saw all too vividly last season. On the plus side, it's great to hear Rudy's going at it hard in Training Camp. Thoughts?

I'm officially sick of Greg Oden and his problems, and with all the unconfirmed rumors he'd rather party than work hard. Last thing we need is another Antoine Walker, Bonzi Wells, self-entitled millionaire in this poor economy. We have Camby and Pryzbilla, and I'm sure management is aware of Oden's lack of consistent commitment, why haven't we cut ties already while we can get something in return? Player's who's contracts exceed their play, need a hard fall back to reality before they can be worth a crap, and that generally entails a new surrounding.

As far as Rudy, can't wait until Patty takes his spot, good riddance to bad rubbish.

Greg Oden's finna be like, Kwame Brown eat your heart out.
    hahahaha.
As far as rudy, thats does suck, but maybe he can finally just sit on the bench the rest of his contract like he wanted.

Who cares if a 22-23 year old wants to have some fun after rehabbing for the day? I guess you have always been a perfect angel. Besides I'm sure Nate has everything under control and right where he wants it, so shut your hole.

Impossible for Rudy to hurt his back because that would suggest that he in fact has a backbone. When your hearts not in something, the likelihood of injury looms large. D-League him. He'll be a star there for sure, MVP even. Then we can ink Mills or the one kid with the dreads that we invited to training camp. That cat showed a little fire in his game. 6'9 220-240lbs. His name escapes me though. Help me out, who knows who im talking about? Dawg, where you at?

I actually ran into Greg one night while he was out "partying" last year. He was with 3 or 4 friends and in no way was any of them out of control or acting even remotely drunk. I went up to Greg and told him I can't wait to watch him play again and to not listen to the haters! My friend who was with me thought I shouldn't have said that to him, but the very next day the front page headline in the sports section of the Oregonian stated "Oden is fed up and let down" where he talked about the media calling him a bust and he didn't say it for obvious reasons, but I'm sure he was sick of hearing it from the negative fans as well. So I didn't feel wrong for saying that because it was the truth. He was also friendly and respectful to me.

If he is changing his diet and cutting out alcohol now, that is great, I was just thinking the other day maybe he needs more nutrition in his diet or something to that effect.

Thanks. Ray Sykes. I like this kid. I saw him once , somewhere. Cant remember. I just remember him being on the ball with ferocity.
Im just saying this. Patty Mills has an opportunity starting now to earn a spot on the squad. The starting five are a lock. If he doesnt earn it, [which i personally dont think that he will], he has an opportunity to get picked up by another NBA team, or play internationally. I wish Rudy had the maturity of Mills. Speaking of which, Rudy to the D-League to marinate and Sykes could battle Pendergraph for mop up.

I haven't had much of an opportunity to see this kid play, and really, know very little about him.  Intriguing, in the very least, as he would come much easier AND cheaper than, say, a Brandon Bass and could possibly fill that perceived void at the back-up 4 spot.  I'm sure that was the reasoning behind his being invited to camp.  Good egg.  Wish him luck.

I hate seeing Rudy look so sad :(
I can only hope his spot does not go to Mills. It is already becoming a distraction. I want to see the battle between JB/WM and EW.  Not Rudys sad face on tv.
I am less than thrilled that Greg is rumored hurt again, 4 years is a bit much for me to stomach. So O-live says everyone on the team who has under 4 years in the nba, passed Nates test, did that include Greg ???? He has not been in the league 4 years yet.

Funniest Rudy jab comments I have read so far on random Blazer sites:
Rudy was the only teammate invited to Roys wedding, to serve the whine .

    Serve the Whine, priceless.

I dont think Mills is what Nate is actually looking for. He's a Tony Parker type. Hot & cold shooting spells. He's also a little small to play good D on West coast point guards who typically start at an average of 6'2". Unless it's Brooks, Lowry, both on Houstons squad, or Parker, and Ty lawson, he's going to have problems with all the other guards i can think of on the West.Who's he going to check on the East come to think of it? He's better suited for the run and run offensive style of the Euro league along with Senior Fenandez Dela Villa Whine.

We went live from the practice facility today and man, Luke Babbitt can stroke it. He wasn't even hitting rim on his shots. The questions I had about his arm strength during summer league are gone. He's got the NBA 3 on lock down. I think he could get more minutes than people think. We need floor spacers out there.

girl? going on with the sexist crap again i see. btw, "ain't got nothin to start up with" is a double negative, which means that the person actually does have something to start up with. then again, i wouldn't expect someone as uneducated as you to understand that. but enough of your blind, false assumptions. as always, if you want to say something, for once -- just once -- try backing it up with fact, rather than the incomplete thoughts contained in your puny little brain.

oh, and i highly doubt someone would confuse Greg with a 5'0 caucasian female. that's must plain ridiculous.

Dang, do your feet show up in your drivers license photo?
ha ha just messing with you. At least you are a full inch taller than my mom!
And I think someone around here lacks the chromosomes for common sense and for effectively communicating what he means the first time he says something.

i can have an opinion, and if it compares you to oden, then so be it, what are you finna do about it?
I actually have said things, perhaps your just "Too smart" to understand them, just relax, let the big boys talk, because you cant say a damn thing without getting all heated, so im gonna icebox you for a while, ya dig?

but uhh, who is this 5' Caucasian female? is she cute?

what i want to know, is if LA, when he first got to the team, if he was stroking his jumpers just like luke is now. Because, i feel as if i am the only one who can still appreciate the fact that our starting PF can hit a jump shot from basically anywhere inside the arc. From what i hear outta you guys though is he takes them when he shouldn't, and or he isnt as reliable as he once was. I think he could fix it if he wanted to, taking 1000 jumpers a day, for all of summer, i hope he did something like that.  But what kind of got me, was  that this kid Luke, hes a big guy, what is he SF, and if they say he's got the shot down, then ill take their word, but i wonder how long he can keep it up. We all saw how he missed those game winning FT's, maybe pressure gets him, idk.

I am a fan of The Blazers ♂, the £-Train, and of course, The ¤ King. ™

roflmao! hey kiddo, i'm not the one trying start crap. you are what's called an internet instigating troll. your statements all over here prove it. most of us can't even understand a single thing you try to say, and not one thing you've said about me is true, even though you think it is just because you say so.

you know, your sexist attitude is just not worth my time. enjoy your ignorance.

i didn't attend fanfest last night. however, i've talked to some people who were there and discussed training camp with others on Mike Barrett's blog, and they all seem to agree that our three rookies have looked very impressive. Elliot is showing his athleticism, Luke is draining it from outside and Armon is playing with some focused aggression. they all also seem to have great attitudes. seems like a far cry from the jail blazers era. anyone geographically closer to portland have any thoughts on this?

I didn't go either last night. I wanted to but my dad had to stay another night in the hospital so that's where I was. Luckily the hospital had the blazer package so I kinda got to watch it!!! I remember I kept seeing this number 9 out there doing some nice things but I could never see his face (the camera work for the game was awful). I finally saw that it was email. I was glad when we got Wesley, and he didn't disappoint last night either. And it was nice to see Rudy not get booed by everyone, because he seems so frail! I liked Armon again, he definitely needs some time, but I'm pretty sure he will fit in real nice when given the opportunity. Didn't get to see Babbit much and I did see Lamarcus actually drive towards the basket so that was good too.
But the best news is, the Blazers won! Doesn't matter if it was a win win situation!

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
