Not only do I love college football, but its also a great way to kill time until the Trail blazer season kicks into high gear around December. Who is everyone's team here? Personally, I pull for the Ducks (72-0! Yikes) and am nervous for the upcoming game at Tennessee.

Although they aren't my favorite team, I respect the Beavers for their OOC schedule and was hoping they'd knock off TCU, but it just wasn't meant to be. I hate seeing games lost like that, with the snap over the quarterback's head.

also, how about Boise St? Will they get into the National Title game if they go undefeated after defeating VA Tech? If yes, should they?

GO DUCKS! I go to U of O so im with ya on that one... and not gonna lie... Boise St. is probably my second favrorite team. They are extremely fun to watch... Oregon vs. Boise in the national championship would be awesome hahah no but really I think Boise would deserve it if they win out and there is less than two major conference teams that are undefeated. But as long as Oregon repeats as pac-10 champs season is a success!

I too, am a Duck.  Not the Duck that detests the Beaver, but the Duck that supports all who hail from Oregon.  There is only one game every season that will find me cursing the Beavs.  I am with you ClydeFrog.  Somewhat apprehensive about this upcoming Tennessee game.  I wasn't as impressed with Thomas's performance as everyone else seemed to be.  I thought he looked particularly shaky throwing to either sideline, something that is a mainstay of the Oregon offense.  Throwing over the top and down field looked to be much stronger.  Chip could have made a legitimate argument for playing the kid 3 quarters, and I personally would have liked to see that.  He needs snaps.  Thomas has a couple of games to get it together before conference play...and he better.  I believe that both the crowd and the humidity will be factors Saturday night.  I don't believe, however, that the crowd will get to anyone but possibly Thomas...but that may be enough.  Maybe, just maybe, we'll get to see a scramble or three?

I was impressed with Kenyon though.  If, for no other reason, the added motivation his play will give James to play out of HIS skull.  The friendly competition between the two will only pay big dividends for the team.

In short, I think it will be the Oregon D that pulls this Saturdays game out, especially in the first half.

As far as Boise St goes, I don't believe that IF they run the table they should then be in the championship conversation.  As always with the BCS, it's just not that simple.  We will have to wait and see who else is there when the dust settles.  Boise St's strength of schedule STILL leaves something to be desired IMO.  The same can be said for Oregon unfortunately though.  They will have to have a repeat performance against PSU coming up, and it probably wouldn't hurt if they more than covered the spread vs Tennessee either.

Boise should NOT be allowed to play in the title game. Playing in the WAC is too easy. I bet there are over 30 teams out there who could go undefeated in the WAC. Yes, BSU is a great team and can play with anyone in a 1 game scenario, but its just not fair how easy of a schedule they have.

Ducks are my #1. I can't hate on the Beavers though (until they play UO). Stanford is #3 for me, but they sure have messed up the Ducks a few times over the last few years. I hope the Ducks can run up the score a little bit on Tennessee.

I have to agree with BDawg and DHawes22 on the Boise State thing. They have put together some really good football teams, but just running the table for them shouldn't necessarily give them a higher rank than a team that plays in a major conference and has a loss. Strength of schedule is really important when there is no head to head. This is a great reason for a playoff system. Some day the NCAA will get it right. Nice win for them last Saturday though.

Oregon's impressive 45-0 run over UT moved them up to #5 in the AP and #6 in the ESPN poll. 5 Pac-10 teams make an appearance in the AP poll, even OSU sneaking back in at #25 despite having a BYE week.

The biggest loser last weekend? Boise St. With VA Tech losing at home to a D2 school, there goes Boise's marquee win. Now what win can they hang there hat on?

Why are we talking football on a blazers site? Don't get mad at me and write nasty things - please. I just want basketball, basketball, basketball, bas-ket-ball. It's like going to a burrito place and getting a snickers bar - what?

kenny, i think the initial post explained it. It's the off-season, there's not a lot going on with the Blazers, blah blah blah. Someone started another post and dhawes locked it to try to just keep it here.

I get what you're saying though, but I bit on it this thread. Personally, I want more Blazers too. I want to know what's up with Rudy, I want to know what Cho's up to these days (another big man to fill in till Joel and Greg are ready, who's he talking to about a deal for Rudy?), I want to know who's already in town working, and if anybody else is going to show up early, I want to know what Greg's real time table for coming back is - same thing with Joel.

Unfortunately there's just nothing happening to talk about at all Blazer related. All of the Blazer posts (including one I posted) have been really lame lately (IMO). I like the college football thread... FOR NOW. Come pre-season, and especially the end of October I'm sure it will be ALL Blazers, ALL the time.

The topic is clearly marked OT for Off Topic. There's a little bug on the off topic forum so we have to use the Blazers board for all things off topic. There's two things Oregonians love and that's Blazers basketball and college football. There's only so many Rudy trade rumors we can talk about before it gets stale, so we're just trying to keep some fresh material to chat about. I'm sure we all love more than just one sport and if anything, think of it as a way to pass time until the Blazers start on Oct. 5th :D Myself and the moderators included will do our best to keep all of the discussion about college football here as to not clutter up the site.

My gut feeling for that Tennessee game was WAY OFF. I was sure scared when we got down 13-3, but then we turned it on defensively and it lead to some offense. I am really impressed with Darron Thomas though. Even when we had our shaky start, it had nothing to do with him. He was very composed and showed progression from week 1 to week 2. It's hard to believe we get this kid for 2 additional seasons after this one! I hope he continues to work hard in practice and paves the way for another outstanding year.

Also, how bad is UCLA? 35-0 to Stanford? Where has that program gone?

@ ClydeFrog...I don't believe ANYONE was any more wrong than I was my friend (see above post and prediction).  The elements of Duck football that I once thought to be dependable, were, at best...no shows...at least in that horrid first stanza.  What happened to the Oregon defense?  This, against a Tennessee team that many feel will have problems getting 4-5 wins this year.  Pass protection for Thomas?  Again, AWOL.  How many times did a Vol defender have a straight shot at Thomas, barely (if at all) touched?  Couldn't believe what I was seeing.  The "experienced" Oregon offensive line have had better days, that much is for certain.  Tough learning curve at QB when you've CONSISTENTLY got a rabid linebacker bearing down on you for a head-on.  I fully agree with you with regard to Thomas and his progression.  Looking forward to seeing him become much more elusive and a better scrambler.  I was very impressed with the patience he showed in the pocket too.

I was impressed with this kid Harris.  Three touchdowns in two games...and in how many snaps?  All while not ONE of them came on the OFFENSIVE side of the line!  Unbelievable.  He is definately turning some heads!

I've been a quacker backer for years now, as long as I can remember.  I don't ever recall seeing a game that featured so many "BIG" plays.  This Duck team is FAST!

Oh, fair enough on the OT explanation. True not much going on, except how awesome Nate did as the defensive coach at the FIBA worlds. I was really impressed by the defense of the US at times in most of the games I saw. If Nate was even a little responsible for what I saw, I can't wait until the season begins to see how our defense will be better than last season. But yeah, football is cool - go ducks. No not really, I hate college football, it's like Kenny Powers said on HBO on the first season of East Bound and Down - "I'm not trying to be the best at exercise I play real sports." I think that is funny.

No doubt.  What made that run uncommonly special too, was the way it began...with the reversal.  Unbelievable!  That run deserves to be right up there with the Kenny Wheaton score.  Those types of plays may be a reoccuring theme this year with Harris added to the mix.  We will be spoiled.

Big weekend for the Pac-10 as a conference coming up.
    Top 10 Iowa visits Arizona
    Washington hosts Top 10 Nebraska
    Arizona State heads to Wisconsin
Oregon State tries to rebound against Louisville in Corvallis
Stanford needs to make a statement at home against Wake Forest
USC must destroy Minnesota if they are to be taken seriously

ASU should be a huge underdog in their contest but the two headliners are UW and Arizona trying to take down Top 10 teams in their own backyard. I don't give the Huskies a fighter's chance because they lack depth and talent around Locker, but I wouldn't be surprised at all in the least bit if the Cats take down the Huskers. This weekend could put the Pac back on the map in the national media's eyes.

HUGE game this Saturday!  So much so, in fact, Autzen will be home to ESPN's GAME DAY...moving kick off to 5 pm (from previously scheduled 8pm)  Weather may again play a big role.  If wet, size beats speed.  Pray for sun!  Last year, Stanford had alot of success "standing us up" at the line of scrimmage.  I am hopeful, Chip has addressed this, as the line is where it all starts. Thomas has GOT to get better protection. If our Ducks can get outside, it's over.  Thomas throwing over the top and rushing a few times won't hurt either.  I am predicting Chip goes much deeper into the playbook for this game.  Should be interesting!

    Predictions???

I have to say from the jump, I am a New York Football Giants fan. I love the Civil War game, because you can feel the whole State of Oregon's prefered pulse. I love anything that brings about a solidarity amongst people. If i had to choose, it would definitely be the school with a mascot thats comfortable in the water.

well, we played a pretty good first half (and excellent first quarter), but oregon came out in the second half and dominated the game. good for them. fortunately, stanford probably won't drop too far (if at all) with the loss.

Stanford is good and had me feeling like the game was a lost cause when it was 21-3, but a few calls by Chip (onside kick and going for the 4th and 2 on Oregon's own 30) kept the game within striking distance and the Ducks eventually wore down the Cardinal.

That game was so meaningful, because the winner now has the tiebreaker and I'm not sure if either team will be underdogs for their remaining schedule. I just hope Luck goes pro after this year so we don't have to face him again.

    @ THE MSP:

Really guys?  I know that radio as a medium ranks right up there with liver and onions and brussel sprouts, therefore ratings are of utmost importance.  However, your sophomoric attacks on UO coach Chip Kelley are coming across as nothing more than a pathetic attempt to generate said ratings by "stirring the pot".  I am a college football fan, and I love my Ducks.  I am not what most would consider a "honk" though.  I just fail to see the logic in attacking a football coach who has his team ranked 3rd now in both the BCS and coaches polls for his ATTIRE.  Considering what Kelley has achieved, with the obstacles he has faced, and the below average recruitment of 5-star athletes for a top tier program...I guess you can't really find anything else negative to say about the man except that he chooses to wear a visor, rather than a hat...even in a Tennessee downpour.  My bad.  Carry on.  :)

No way Luck stays two more years. He already redshirted, which means this is his 3rd year at Stanford and will probably graduate sometime next year if he stays. I could see him maybe playing one more year but passing up being the consensus #1 pick would be tough.

it's likely he won't stay for both years, though from what i've read and heard about him, that wouldn't surprise me. i think he'll stay for his senior year (of school). he's majoring in architectural engineering, and his parents are pushing him to finish his degree, which would bring him back next season. he may not end up as the consensus number one pick though, at least not this year. that all remains to be seen.

Not winning the Heisman going 8-4 or whatever Michigan gets to this year. 3 picks against the only good team he's played against so far, one crucial one in the endzone. He may have the stats, but your team's got to be in it to win it. It'll come down to Kellen Moore and LaMichael James imo.

    Uhm.*cough*
    Denard Robertson. Heisman Winner.
    180 rushpg
    200+ passpg.
    Whats up NFL.

Not winning the Heisman going 8-4 or whatever Michigan gets to this year. 3 picks against the only good team he's played against so far, one crucial one in the endzone. He may have the stats, but your team's got to be in it to win it. It'll come down to Kellen Moore and LaMichael James imo.

yeah i agree. I just felt as if, if they could of gotten past MSU, that would of done it for his confidence, Robinson is good, but he is still a little unsure at times, times when a QB has no time to be unsure. I agree with Kellen Moore on that. But i dislike the BSU and TCU situations and how they really dont play that tough of teams, and i know its in debate right now, but i feel as if they should play better teams, so that the level of skill is relatively the same, and there's always a team that can make your last week shutout seem like a dream. if ya feel me?

But im not counting him out, im favoring on Michigan, Shoelaces all the way. :D

Feel bad for the Beavs..come back from 21 down, and so close for getting the 2 point conversion. You can't blame the 2 pt call, but why not go into a 3rd OT when you must try to 2 points after a touchdown? They were moving the ball at will on the UW defense.

An old football analogy for overtime says,
"You go for the tie at home, you go for the win on the road."

I understand that analogy, but UW was getting lucky with both of their touchdown passes and personally, I didn't think they'd be able to continue scoring. OSU had the best player on the field (Rodgers) and I thought if they would have been able to continue to use him, they would have came away victorious.

The catch was MADE...but then dropped.  The play was there, and in my opinion, a great call.  Sorry D.  Every once in awhile, I have to disagree with you :)

Go Ducks.  No letdowns.  No curse!  "Win the Day!!!" (six more times)

Paul Allen said how do we get better?  I see no activity in the draft with no draft picks.  The trade possibilities are limited because of the value of our bench players.  We have no cap space.  So I think the improvement of our b...

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
