Here's the latest of the Rudy saga from Jason Quick-
Rudy Fernandez will not report to the Trail Blazers training camp in October and the disgruntled guard has no intention of playing for the Blazers for the remaining two years of his contract, his agent said Wednesday.

What has been a simmering trade request since last summer has now reached a boiling point: Fernandez has informed agent Andy Miller that he is prepared to be suspended by the Blazers and forfeit the final two years of his contract in order to return to Europe and play in his homeland of Spain in 2012.

Fernandez, 25, is unhappy with his role and is frustrated with the offensive style of coach Nate McMillan, whom he says limits him to just a shooter, and not the playmaker he has shown he can be in international play.
    And more...
Miller said Fernandez has become so frustrated with NBA politics that he no longer wants to play in the league.

"In Rudy's mind, this is long over," Miller said. "Promises have been made, sacrifices have been made, and it didn't work out."

This thing looks like it's going to end up ugly. Which side will budge? The longer this goes on though, I'd have to think the less we can get in return for Rudy. His agent wants Portland to release him, but I only see that as a last resort and if his contract can be avoided and his salary taken off of our cap.

Wow...didn't see that coming. Rudy must have just snapped. What a lil piece of crap. Worst case he stays and people still embrace him and cheer for him. Thats a low move in my opinion. So long rudy, hope u find what ur looking for punk.

Have Rudy release a statement saying which nba teams he would even consider/like to go to, and then trade him to one of those teams for a first round draft pick. At least that way we can be guaranteed to get something

There was a rumor that Portland already tried to do that. Nobody was willing to give up a first round pick for Rudy, apparently.

wow. what a douche. to let his agent represent him like that shows he doesn't care about this franchise at all. to say he had hurt his value before was nothing. he's worthless in the NBA now. a total risk for anyone who was even casually interested in him before. if you can't make him happy, he sits out. not to mention the leverage his agent mentioned a couple of times about now no european will want to come here. what the heck does that have to do with him? what a baby. keep taking care of number 1 rudy. it's a team sport buddy. see ya around. rudy was a COMPLETE waste of time and money. time to take out the trash.

No huge shocker there. Mr Cho, please cut bait and move on. Trying to keep someone who doesnt want to be kept is not good for anyone involved. There are no minutes for Rudy with the Blazers anymore, and he did NOTHING last season to want other teams to give up anything of value for him.

    Gracias Y adios Rudy !!

Yah, these player never cease to amaze me. Its no wonder they're not exectutives for a wealthy company, because theyre all so F******* STUPID.
Dont even realize the opportunity that they have been given, i say you cut him and sign an undrafted rookie just to rub it in his face, i mean that would only be folloiwng NBA ettiquite these days right, shoot back at a player who shoots on you. Really though even iff he did break the record for most 3ptrs in a season for rookies, Ship his ass back to spain and let him get trampled by the bulls.

This is extremely unfortunate .. Rudy has the capability to play at MVP lvl ball .. he simply has not shown Portland that lvl of talent threw out his career to date .. and he gets upset that he can not take a starting job from our second string players ?

And on top of it .. he thinks Portland is dicking HIM around ?

Sorry Rudy, I've followed you since I first heard Portland was going after you, but this time your 100% dead wrong ..

This is no surprise to me. It has been leaked from European outlets for a long time and if you didn't atleast believe there were some partial truths behind this, you were missing something. Portland can't simply cut him without it counting against the salary because they used their one waiver to release Ryan Gomes. Regardless, it isn't like Rudy has a huge contract. Assigning him to the D-League would be really funny, but you know he would continue to sit out so it wouldn't do anygood. It's like putting a 13 year old on "time-out." Rudy just made a big mess of things, and Portland will not get fair value in return. At this point, they may have to settle for a second round pick and a trade exception.

After hearing Mr Cho last night, I am glad the Blazers have a gm with a backbone. But still feel like it takes the bigger man to put an end to all of this, instead of letting it be a distraction going in to training camp.
Again, I'm female so I dont understand  male testosterone at times ;-)  Dragging this out, and making Rudy rot on the  bench isnt good for team morale.
Portland will NOT get what they think Rudy is worth, his value declines every day.

I think, since his salary isn't that much and if it's going to count against our cap anyway (like RCR said), we should just let him stay in Spain and not play. Basically, just ignore him. Rudy's agent talked a lot about Portland getting a bad rep among European players - so let's let him go home - but NOT release him! He signed an NBA contract with guaranteed money. If Portland had decided it wasn't working out and just stopped CTC's, Rudy's agent would have had a cow. It works both ways. Cho has to be careful not to set the precedent that Rudy's tactics worked or he'll be dealing with it again before he knows it.

NBA AM: The End Is Near For Rudy Fernandez
By: Steve Kyler Last Updated: 8/19/10 9:38 AM ET | 8330 times read

Adjust font size:Drawing The Line In The Sand: Rudy Fernandez is finished in Portland – at least that's the vibe coming from Fernandez's agent Andy Miller who proclaimed to virtually every reporter with a pen that his client is finished with the Portland Trailblazers and he's not returning to the NBA.

"There's nothing to fix," Miller said to Brian T. Smith of The Columbian. "He does not want to come back to the NBA."

"This is not a bluff," Miller said. "In his mind, he's not coming back."

"In my mind, we're at a very unnecessary juncture," Miller said. "I'm certainly not happy as an NBA agent that this is happening."

According to Miller the Blazers had reasonable offers from Chicago, New York and Boston and wanted too much value back for Rudy, and that ultimately new GM Rich Cho "overplayed" the situation and it's now time to talk about terminating the contract and letting Rudy return to Spain.

"At the end of the day, we're going to do what's in the best interest of the organization," was the response from the Blazers and GM Rich Cho.

Miller however says that Fernandez is prepared to take the contract to court and have a judge void the deal, but would rather the Blazers understand the marriage is beyond repair and reach an agreement on their own.

"All I can do now is stand on the roof top and scream 'He's not coming!'," Miller said to Jason Quick of The Oregonian. "He's just not coming back... I've made that clear."

"In Rudy's mind, this is long over," Miller said. "Promises have been made, sacrifices have been made, and it didn't work out."

Miller and Fernandez are not seeking a cash buyout, rather for the Blazers to simply allow Rudy out of the deal.

"I would like to have an amicable divorce," Miller said. "That's the best resolution at this point. I have tried to let them get an asset back but that hasn't worked. Portland's stance is that they have legal rights, but they can't let this type of thing take place. If you send the message that this is how you will treat one of the most highly decorated players in Europe, why would anyone come to you?"

"Why would anyone want to hold anyone against their will?" Miller asked. "He's not going to want to practice; he's not going to want to be around his teammates. I mean, if they thought he was difficult when he was contributing, imagine how difficult he will be when he is not."

The Blazers have maintained that Rudy is a valuable asset and they will not simply give him up, but given where things stand today are the Blazers really going to commit a roster spot to a player that's likely not going to report to camp?

Sure the Blazers' can fine him for everyday he misses and this can become a daily nuisance, but is Rudy Fernandez really worth all of that?

It looks like the Blazers plan to find out.

True Jason, I can only hope the Blazers have learned their lesson about bringing in players that Nate wont play. ( no defense playing turnover machines )  and do their homework before bringing a player in who may do this in the future.
I understand Cho doesnt want start off that way. But it is what it is,  and the distraction has to stop. Cho has to clean up the mess any way you look at it. Hopefully he was aware of that when he took the job. I dont think going into the season with a 14 players is such a bad idea. By February , who knows what will shake loose.  Let Rudy stay in Spain, and work on a trade by the deadline. Reality is no one is doing cartwheels for Rudy to join their team right now. I just hope if Rudy is waived, that Mills doesnt get the roster spot.

If Rudy is fined, instead of getting a check,  does his agent still get paid ?  If that is the case, I'm all for it. Agents are about on my last nerve this summer.

At the end of the day, this is a business. We arent and cant be strong armed by a disgruntled player. If he doesnt report, fine him. Still no show? Suspend him. Still doesnt get it? Dissolve his contract for breach. Quiet as kept, this guy has taken his worth down to the cellar. no one in their right mind is going to want to take this kid, knowing that at the slightest hint of adversity that he would crumple like a stale Dorito. Sounds like a mini me version of Turkolu, minus the Mrs. of course. Thank God we had an opportunity to have Sabonis. Other than him though, i can only think of a handful of international/european players that havent been whiners.

Like Cho said on Conzazo's show last night [(over and over and over again) not a great interview by any means]. He's going to do what's best for the organization. Best for Rudy doesn't even enter the conversation. Now Cho knows what Rudy intends to do, and Cho can decide how best to deal with it leaving the Blazers with the best possible outcome. Screw Rudy. He keeps crying about Portland making some promises to him that weren't kept. What about his signature on the dotted line of a 4 year contract. This is the NBA. It's about winning, and Nate's vision of how this team should play. It's not about Rudy AT ALL. You have to earn your spot here. The guy is a complete tool.

I would put him on the end of the bench night after night and make him look like the ass that he is. Rudy, I know over in Europe you are "Brandon Roy" but over here in the big boy league you are not even a starter. I don't know who is giving this guy advice but you should fire them.

He wouldnt be Brandon Roy on team Bangladesh. If anything he's " Random Boy" . I've tried to the point of nauseum trying not to call this guy something other than his name because im a NYC born and bred Blacktop ball player from Queens who has always loved this game. However, im compelled now to break that vow and say that Rudy is flirting with retardation. His statements alone are those of someone who doesnt think before speaking. Who in their right mind says out loud that " i cant play here, i play better at home," Literally. I'll say this and be done with Rudy. I was mad at hell at Rasheed, disappointed in Bonzi, flabbergasted by Rider, befuddled by Randolph, upset with Trent, and wasnt surprised by Woods. But, with you, im disgusted. You stand alone in this category because you're soft, mentally. The NBA has a higher tolerance level than real fans, and im going to go out on a limb and speak for all of us when i say that you have insulted our family, and you have insulted the Shaolin Temple.

Yeah, I actually looked up earlier today that Rudy had the 6th most minutes of any player on our team last year, and he ranked only 9th on what 82games.com calles the production simple rating - which is basically a production rating that includes data about how a player does, how his opponents do, and how his team does, with and without him on the floor. I don't see what he's complaining about if it's playing time. If his production ranks 9th, but his playing time is 6th, in an oversimplified way, isn't he getting the benifit of the doubt? How could he get more minutes? Should Nate have made Roy sit so Rudy could play more? If you ask me, Rudy got too many minutes.

Haven't heard mention of "The foul".  I believe that is more of a factor than anyone realizes.  Rudy knows that he will never again be the same player he was when he first donned the scarlet, black and white.  To that point, I heard on the Game today that he sat out Spain's last game because of his back.  160lbs and a chronic back...stick a fork in him, he's done.  Ofcourse he has a right to be upset, but to direct that anger and frustration at the team that gave him opportunity?  Don't get it and can't condone it.

Dang I am almost sorry I made a nice post about Rudy on a differant thread.   I cant see why we did not trade him for what we could at the time. Make something out of the deal anyway. I am sure his number would have gotten better closer to the trade deadline had he played it smart. As it stands right now he can go run with the bulls be a hero in Spain and everyone will know there he could not make it in the NBA. I got just one thing to say to Rudy..Keep the uniform because as bunched as your draws are and where the bunch is located I doubt if even Martha Stewart could get the stain out. Good Riddance
