    From Joe Freeman-
The unsettled circumstances surrounding general manager Kevin Pritchard’s tenure with the Trail Blazers has generated the most confusion.

The news that an assistant coaching shakeup is imminent on coach Nate McMillan’s staff has stimulated intrigue.

But as these distractions have stolen most of the limelight during this curious Blazers offseason, the team’s management staff has quietly continued preparing for the 2010 NBA draft and put in motion its plans to improve the roster heading into next season.

And although there seems little doubt that the Blazers would like to add depth at point guard and bulk at power forward, one area will guide most of what they do moving forward this summer: shooting.

“Nate likes shooters,” Pritchard said, grinning.

And the Blazers’ coach did not like the way his shooters performed last season. A combination of injuries, trades and sub-par performances handicapped the team’s perimeter offense and reversed what once was one of the team’s biggest strengths. After the Blazers were eliminated in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs by the Phoenix Suns, McMillan made it clear to the front office that he would like an upgrade.

“I would like to, if we could, add more shooting so that we can spread the floor,” McMillan said. “Shooting is at a premium and it always has been.” CONTINUE READING>>>

Which makes sense to go out on the free agent market and get a wing player who just does nothing but net 3 pointers. It's been thrown around a lot on these boards, but Morrow, Korver, and Miller would all be welcome acquisitions. As far as a trade goes, I'd be thrilled if we could land Jared Dudley, who has turned himself into a fabulous shooter. Heck, James Jones would be a welcome back addition as well. He wouldn't command a lot of minutes behind Batum, is a veteran, and had his best season as a pro in Portland!

What can Martell improve on this off season...
shoot the ball/ shoot the ball /shoot the ball
and my favorite saying this off season, bring Blake back , it won 54 games , it's not either Miller or Blake, it's Miller and Blake doing what it takes to win... they compliment each others weakness.
With any other free agent, you risk messing up chemistry.
There could be a reason KP was grinning, they already know what they want to do, we just have to wait and see.

I think being healthy won us 54 games in 2009, not necessarily the fact Steve Blake was on the roster. 48 minutes is just not enough time to split between Blake and Miller.

First of all, I must have missed where someone threw out "PG." A shooter doesn't mean a PG. In fact, many shooters are NOT PG's they are SG's. I would like a guy like Ray Allen who can handle the ball a little bit, but shoots the lights out of the building. Kyle Korver would be alright, but I don't think he would be as affective due to his lack of diversity. He's a one trick pony and we need a sweet shooter that also has one or two other tricks. Just enough to keep the defense honest. I'm trying to think of who else is out there, maybe trading for a Tony Parker or Manu. With that said, from what I've heard, Claver offers that as well, plus he has height. Now, he's definitely a project, but if he came in early enough in the summer he could have time to develop. I would prefer to get a veteran though.

Mike Miller is the only guy I can think of that isn't a PG (because we don't need to stunt Bayless' development) and wont conflict with Roy's minutes, but can still take Roy's minutes to give him a good rest that he needs throughout a season.

I wouldn't count on Claver for next season. From all accounts, I don't think he'll be coming over for the 2011 season.

I wasn't counting on him, but he'd be a desperation plug for that spot. Bert, since when is Korver, or Ginobli, or Kapono, or Allen, or Jones, or Reddick, or Mason a PG? Not to say those are our only choices, but they are some of the highest rated three point shooter/scorers that are all attainable. I actually heard one person that I thought was intriguing today at the least. A caller on the radio said the Blazers should make a play for Granger. Now he suggested that we give up WAY too much, he suggested Batum and Oden, but  for a reasonable price the idea is interesting.

Ok RipCityRevival. All those are great players but here's what I think. Allen, Reddick and Mason are good shooters (one great) but all three are SGs. Guess who is a SG on our team? Allen would be great, but come on really? Do you think he will come to us to play off the bench? If he did, great, but really? Mason had a great year 2 years ago, last year not so much. He's 30 now I believe and not getting any better, but a good cheap addition. Korver...yeah he's not leaving Utah, I'll just stop there. Ginobili would be VERY intriguing, not sure the Spurs would let him just walk though...and he wont come cheap. So Mike Miller, a versatile 2/3..not the best player out of the pool, but definitely a good one. But hey if we can catch Allen, Ginobili or Korver I wont complain at all.

    My final answer until Thursday:
    Bring in ,
Steve Blake, James Jones  or  Jamal Crawford  for one roster spot.
I have warmed up to the idea of drafting another pf though.

Jamal Crawford would be great, but I don't think Atlanta is ready to part ways with him. James Jones I've got no problem with. And well you know how I stand with Steve Blake. I actually threw a party when he was traded and we played the Clippers.
