Wow, its like a coaching carousal today. First Izzo expected to go to Cleveland and now Avery Johnson is off the market, taken by the New Jersey Nets as reported by ESPN HERE.
The New Jersey Nets and ESPN analyst Avery Johnson have reached a verbal agreement to hire Johnson as the Nets' new coach, according to sources close to the process.

Johnson, who has been working for ESPN since his dismissal from the Dallas Mavericks after the 2007-08 season, was the NBA's Coach of the Year in 2005 and took the Mavs to the NBA Finals in 2006. He posted a record of 194-70 in three-plus seasons, good for a winning percentage of .735, and will be reunited in New Jersey with point guard Devin Harris.

Johnson was a finalist for the coaching job in Atlanta, having met Saturday with Hawks general manager Rick Sund for his third in-person visit with the team. The Hawks are expected to make their choice this week, after conducting multiple interviews with Mavericks assistant Dwane Casey, holdover Hawks assistant Larry Drew, ESPN analyst Mark Jackson and Johnson.

The arrival of Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov as the Nets' new owner initially prompted speculation that New Jersey would try to lure Duke's Mike Krzyzewski to the pros with an offer of $12 million to $15 million annually.

The Nets also had strong interest in ESPN/ABC analyst Jeff Van Gundy, but Van Gundy told team president Rod Thorn that he wanted to stay in television for at least one more season. CONTINUE READING>>>

While I'm not the biggest fan of Johnson, he does have a history of good regular seasons. Its the playoffs where I think he tends to get out-coached and adapts to the opposition instead of forcing their hand.  With the Nets job off the market, it looks like the Clippers and Hawks are the only two openings left. Both promising teams who's futures will be very telling after free agency is over.

Good hire for an extremely young team, in need of some positive results these upcoming years. I do think he is just a stop gap coach though. If the Nets start to make some headway and can't get over that hump, he'll be replaced. But for the time being, he was the best person available.

Unholy your failing to account for a few things. One Tony Allen has significantly outplayed his 3.3 million a year contract. He will get several MLE offers which starts at 5.15 million. So if you want him it will take at least that much probably m...

Rookies are fine a team should be able to carry 5 of them easily. The problem with us last year was we had no depth in front of the rookies. Lillard and Leonard as lottery picks should have gotten lots of playing time, which they did. However, Bar...

Rip the Larry Sanders trade would happen on draft day so people would already know we fixed out biggest weakness. Then once free agency begins its up to LA, Lillard, Stotts, Olshey and Paul Allen to lure people here. It becomes a lot easier to con...

Thanks Ricky.   I''ll be watching @ 10.   Haven''t seen enough right hand from Shazamm.   Without the ability to take his defender either way off the bounce, let alone finish at the cup with either hand?   Second rounder at best.
