    Nicolas Batum
    Position: SF
    2009-10 salary: $1,118,760
Contract status: Entering the third season of his rookie contract, Nicolas Batum is set to make $1,196,760 in 2010-11, and the Trail Blazers hold a team option for the 2011-12 season.

2009-10: Finished regular season with averages of 10.1 points, 1.2 assists and 24.8 minutes in 37 games (25 starts) ... Shot 51.9 percent (139-for-268) from the field and 40.9 percent (54-for-132) from three-point range ... Counted a career best with 12 rebounds, including a career-high 11 defensive boards, to go with 12 points for his first career double-double April 14 vs. Golden State.

Second-year forward Nicolas Batum's 2009-10 season started about 45 games later than anticipated. Coming off a productive summer for the French National team in the Eurobasket Championships where he ranked second on the team with 9.6 points and 4.9 rebounds in 28 minutes a game, hopes were high for Batum. But a nagging shoulder injury originating last season forced Batum to have season-delaying surgery that would keep him out three months.

Batum made his season debut Jan. 25 vs. New Orleans, coming off the bench to score six points in 10 minutes on 3-of-5 shooting. In the following two games, Batum scored 28 points on 11-for-16 shooting in better than 25 minutes of action in each contest.

He returned with aggressiveness and a newfound offensive prowess that Blazers coaches had been itching to see since the summer. It all culminated in a career night at Minnesota. As a rookie, Batum set a career high with 20 points against the New Jersey Nets. On February 27th, in his 17th game back, Batum bested that high in a single quarter alone, going off for 22 of his career-high 31 in the third against the Timberwolves. Batum shot 11-for-16, notched seven assists and tied career highs with five three-pointers made and three steals.

Batum scored in double figures in 16 games, including five games of more than 20 points. In his second season "Frenchie," as his teammates call him, upped his averages across the board, including minutes played, points per game, rebounds per game, assists per game, field goal percentage, three-point percentage and free throw percentage, albeit in only 37 games.

During the 2009 postseason, Batum played in all six games (five starts), averaging 2.0 points (5-for-9 FG) and 0.5 rebounds in 10 minutes. Batum used those playoffs as motivation this year. This postseason Batum started all six games, despite the return of the nagging shoulder, scoring in double figures three times, averaging 8.2 points, 3.2 rebounds in 23 minutes per game.

Batum also earned some recognition defensively, grabbing a few votes for the NBA's All-Defensive Team this season.

This one is about as easy as it gets. Great defender, excellent potential, best 3 point shooter, possible budding star, and on that small of a contract? YES PLEASE!
I have such high hopes for Nico, I don't want to even think of other starting small forwards. He is the perfect puzzle piece to this team and seemingly is always getting better. His jumper is smooth and his off the dribble shot is looking better every day. Hopefully he gets healthy and can add more to his repertoire this summer playing for France!

Stay. We're not getting LeBron, Anthony, or Durant so there's no point in moving Nico. Outside of those 3, I don't think there's a SF I'd rather have in the NBA than Batum. His combination of athleticism, shooting, length, and overall defensive instincts make him a Blazer for life. Did I mention he's only 21 years old?

joint option for year three at like 8 million. Then if he works out you got him for a bargain for 2-3 years and if not it costs only 1.2 million for next year.

Paul Allen might sell the Blazers but the Blazers will never leave Rip City.
