    Dante Cunningham 2009-10 stats

    Dante Cunningham
    Position: F
    2009-10 salary: $457,588
Contract status: Selected by Portland in the second round (33rd pick overall) of the 2009 NBA Draft. Entering second and final year of his rookie contract. Cunningham is set to make $762,195 in 2010-11.

2009-10: Completed rookie campaign with averages of 3.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 11.2 minutes in 63 games (two starts) ... Posted his first double-double with 13 points and a career-high 11 rebounds April 14 vs. Golden State ... collected a career-best four steals March 3 vs. Indiana ... Scored in double figures in three straight games (2/9-2/16) ... Scored a career-best 14 points (7-12 FG) Feb. 9 vs. Oklahoma City ... Tallied 10 points in a career-high 31 minutes Feb. 1 vs. Charlotte ... Scored in double figures in six games ... Grabbed five rebounds or more in 13 games.

In five postseason appearances, Dante Cunningham averaged 4.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 8.6 minutes.

Cunningham, a four-year college player out of Villanova, impressed Portland early with his versatility, rebounding, toughness, maturity and basketball IQ.

"He's a very confident guy who plays hard and he's not afraid to mix it up with anybody," Blazers coach Nate McMillan said earlier this season. "I think he's a young professional, and you don't see a lot of those guys."

Cunningham led the Blazers' Summer League team with 18.3 points and a team second-best 5.8 rebounds in four starts in Vegas.

A self-described "tenacious defender (and) rebounder," Cunningham is also pretty automatic with the midrange shot (49.5 percent from the field this year).

"I'm gonna build on different things, extend that range and continue to develop my game."

Definite keeper in my book! I see Dante potentially becoming the backup power forward of the future with his superb rebounding skills and jump shot to keep the defense spread out on offense. His ability to guard multiple types of players from the perimeter to the low block is also very valuable. I think if he gets the time next year, he'll definitely produce at either small or power forward.

Stay. What else more can you expect from a 2nd round pick? If it came down to keeping he or Pendergraph, I'd keep Dante for the above reasons mentioned. Love his versatility, sneaky athleticism, and seems to know this role.

Keep Dante !! With him and Marcus, they can rest LA more too. I'm concerned about the future of LA and Roy with all the minutes they played last season. We need them healthy for a decade.

Love Dante!!  He is our secret weapon!  Hopefully not a secret for too much longer though, would love to see him play more next season!

Dante rocks. He grabbed more boards in 30 minutes, then Outlaw did all last season.

Who does everyone think will get the minutes at the backup PF spot next season, Dante, Juwan, or new acquisition?

i'm 55/45 on this one. 55 being go, and 45 being stay. He's good, but man I would imagine his value being high in the market. A second round pick contract with his potential, we could package him with someone and get something real nice in return. What I'm scared of most with Dante is, can he potentially turn into a Antawn Jamison type player, or just a power forward who can spot up and shoot and bring energy. This ones hard.

Who would you package him with Bertram? Dante is on a very cheap salary so he would have to be moved with someone making a substantial amount of money to get someone back cap-wise.
I'm not a league-insider or anything, but for some reason when I think of Cunningham, I think of "He means more to us, than you"

well mccollum looks cool but lillard was a rarity when it comes to small school ballers being successful I don''t see 2 small school ballers 2 drafts in a row especially one comeing from a weak draft being anything spectacular
