    Press Release-

Becomes Third Trail Blazer to Earn Multiple All-NBA Team Honors

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy was named to the 2009-10 All-NBA Third Team, the NBA announced today.

Roy, named to the All-NBA Second Team in 2008-09, becomes the third Trail Blazer in franchise history to earn multiple All-NBA Team honors, joining Clyde Drexler (four) and Bill Walton (two). He is the only Trail Blazer to be named to both the All-Rookie Team and All-NBA Team during his career.

“We're honored that the sportswriters and broadcasters who cover our league have again recognized Brandon as one of the best players in the game,” Trail Blazers General Manager Kevin Pritchard said. “Our success this season was largely a result of Brandon's leadership and determination. For him to step back on the court only eight days after knee surgery is a true reflection of just the kind of player and person he is and how badly he wants to win.” CONTINUE READING>>>
Roy is only the 3rd Blazer to make multiple All-NBA teams, along with Bill Walton and Clyde Drexler. Early on in his Trail Blazer career, Brandon is already in elite Blazer territory. It's inevitable he'll end up with his #7 jersey hanging from the rafters of the Rose Garden someday in the future, and there seems like many more memorable moments and achievements Roy will bring to the table over the rest of his time here in Rip City.

Brandon got what he deserved..no way does he go above any of the other guards selected to the first two teams..notice the domination of western players!.

Williams is playing some of the best ball hes played and when it comes down to Nash and Roy. Nash has been more dependable this year seeing as he hasn't been injured. Its okay though, 3rd team is still an honor. Especially when names like Gasol and Duncan are on it.

I agree with everything that's been said, 3rd Team is sufficient enough, considering he's missed a large chunk of the season. I mean, he still beat out the likes of Rondo and Rose, which is pretty good company. If he had stayed healthy the whole year, 2nd team would have been a lock because of the team success despite the injuries.

Call it sour grapes or what not, but I don't think Kevin Durant should have made 1st team. I thought both Dirk and Amare had better seasons and do so much more efficiently, one of the main reasons why I'm not sure Durant would work on this team. He wouldn't be getting 25 shots a night here.

Melo has no business on the 2nd team. He is a volume scorer who brings nothing else to the table. When Chauncey got injured, the team struggled, because he couldn't carry them and doesn't make others around him better.

I don't want to seem like I'm down on Brandon,  I am thankful he is a Blazer.  But big new contract, means big responsibilites. He has to lead by example, fair or not.  What is the biggest difference between him and  either Kobe or Lebron?  reality outside the pacific nw, imo, it's the defensive end.  If he played both ends with equal effort, and became a lock down defender, then yes, he should get voted higher.

Kim- There's a reason those two are Kobe and LeBron and perennial 1st Team All-NBA performers and multiple MVP winners..it's because they are the cream of the NBA crop. Also, have you seen the talent surrounding Bryant and James is just a freak physically. One Roy gets more consistent help offensively, and he doesn't have to shoulder the offensive burden, then I think we'll see more of a prowess defensively from Brandon.

I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree here.  Forget Lebron. Let's look at Kobe.... I think Brandon is surrounded by talent also.  The Laker team doesnt make Kobe a lock down defender. It's something he made happen , working  himself.  The Blazer team was able to win games without Brandon, so he doesnt carry the complete offensive load. I'm tired of repeating myself on this issue, but the entire team outside Camby and Batum need to improve on defense if they want rings. If Brandon is the leader, it needs to start with him.  I've heard him admit it himself. I think Brandon is the best thing to happen to the Blazers in a long time, but some fans get too drunk off the kool aide here to admit he has room for improvement.

I agree Kim. Brandon needs to be more consistent on defense, however I do think he's our best perimeter defender against the other teams best perimeter scorer. Let's look, the first 2 games he played in the playoffs he was on J.Rich. On a bad wheel, he made J.Rich work.

Another look, who is on Kobe in late game situations? Who is on LeBron? Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce? It's Brandon.

Fact is, Brandon is an above average defender...but I'd love to see him put out more effort.

    Actual Bertram,
Roy was not 100%, so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt on Richardson, there were other Blazers who Richardson torched as well.
I think Nic usually gets the hardest defensive assignment, and Bayless, imo, is already a better perimeter defender than Roy. Bayless has great lateral quickness.  He had his hands full with Nash, like Nic did with Hill.
Watching the Spurs get swept has made me feel a little better about Richardson, but i would bet $ he won't get off on Kobe like he has been in the playoffs.

I would like to see both guards be able to lock the ball down, and as Roy goes , the team will follow......

Yea Roy was beat up and the Suns targeted that by running anyone on Brandon off of multiple screens every time down, testing that knee to no end, so I wouldn't even gauge Roy's defensive performance in the playoffs.

Man, speaking of 3rd team, where is Joe Johnson at? Talk about someone not stepping up for their team when needed!

I never base my opinions on a couple of games.  I've just seen Brandon arguing calls and not getting back on defense too many times for my liking, and again, he has to lead by example on both ends.
Phoenix exposed a weakness beyond Roy with the Blazers, perimeter defense.
I feel bad for the Hawks, they were the only team I even liked once the Blazers were out.....

Wow the Hawks caved like the Buffalo Bills in the Super Bowl! Joe Johnson is costing himself a lot of money this summer. I know I wouldn't pay a 30 year old MAX money. I think his best days are behind him.

A point was made on courtside last night, about Atlanta and the Blazers having similar isolation heavy offenses.  Food for thought about being so predictable on offense next season. Easy to defend when you know whats coming. .....

Brandon can play defense. There's no question about that. Check this out. Seriously it's worth watching.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jLpd2q9Pwo

This is what he can do against one of the best guards in the league when it's crunch time. Brandon is one of the most unselfish well rounded players in the league and he can do just about anything he wants to. That's why the coaches pick him up for the all-star games. Having said that, Kim is right... he relaxes and gets burned a lot and he has developed a Zach Randolf habit of talking to the refs when he should be getting back on D. Early in their careers Jordan and Kobe were both accused of the same thing and they both developed into great defenders. I think Brandon will commit to it  and become a better defensive player as well, but right now his defense is not great by any means.

He can play phenominal D, he just needs to make the decision to do it all the time.

I think we can all agree then, Brandon should work on his defensive prowess in the offseason. Its the one thing keeping him from being on the DWade level.
