Should Roy play more in the offseason?

In an article I wrote yesterday, Brandon Roy said that he would play more basketball this offseason than he did last year. Last summer, Roy made a point of not touching a basketball for months after the season ended, giving himself time to rest while also lessening the chance of injury. But this year, Roy says he's balling this summer. So my question is: is he better off playing more ball this summer? On one hand, Roy says playing helps him keep his rhythm. I think the logic there is that he won't suffer a slow start to the 2010-11 season. On the other hand, he is coming off knee surgery. So what do you think? Good that he's going to play more, or does the risk outweigh the reward?

I think it should be up to him, he knows his body.  I wouldn't mind him doing some work on defense this summer. It wasn't all Roy, but the image of Jason Richardson torching us all series is still burned into my brain. Even better if Dre joins him .

Its not like hes going to go all or nothing here. I am sure he will be responsible during the first part of the off season and not go 110%. He knows that he just had an injury/surgery so he will be likely to take it easy for awhile. But even all-stars have areas that they could improve on their game and Roy knows that. The offseason will be the best chance he has to focus on the little things.

No doubt, though I think after 10 seasons, Dre is pretty much set in his offseason routine. He's going to kick back, grow the afro out again, eat a few hot dogs on the 4th of July, and pretty much chillax. Hard to argue with a guy who has played in over 600 straight games.

I think he should play a little bit more in the summer. Nothing to exhausting, but we all saw a slow start out of Roy to begin the season, and even Brandon said playing keeps him in a rhythm. I would let the knee heal 100% first, then start hooping it up. It hasn't really hurt Wade/Melo/James and they play for the Olympic team in the summer.

We can't live in fear of Brandon getting hurt. I'd love for him to keep up a good rhythm and push himself just a little bit this summer basketball wise. The slow starts to the season always seem to come back and bite us in the butt, so if he could get rolling early, esp in the tough NW division, it could be the difference between 1st and 3rd place.

I think the slow start this year had something to do with getting used to playing with Greg and Andre. I think a lot of people kind of expected. I guess if Brandon thinks playing basketball over the summer will help him out though, I'm all for it. He knows what he's doing. I heard Andre said he was going to come in in better shape next year. He did look a little doughie when he came in this year. I agree though that if it's not broke, don't fix it. Seems like what he's doing is working pretty well considering the consecutive game streak. Hope he doesn't do anything too different that causes him to get hurt.

I'd love it if the boys got together in August like they did before the 08 season and get the chemistry gelling right away with Greg. The one knock on Brandon I had early last year was his inability to find Oden in the post. I'll cut him some slack because the two really haven't played a lot together.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Brandon play for the US team. All the added experience playing with the best in the world can never hurt, plus there aren't heavy in-game minutes due to the talent level involved with everyone getting around the same playing time.

Brandon knows what he's doing. I'd love to see him play more, I mean when he did to improve his 3 pt shooting look what happened. He became a decent 3 pt threat compared to his rookie season where you can almost leave the guy open. I really hope he improves his midrange jumper even more and add some more post moves. His penetration moves are top 3 in the league among 2 guards.

You nailed it. Roy knows Roy better than anyone, so we should trust him to do whats right. I would love to see him work on his defense, free throw shooting, and court vision. I know he averages almost 5 dimes a game, but he never really looks for Greg down low. He could really use some chemistry with G.O. in the summer, because those two could be a dynamite combination.
