“This has gone past crazy. Bad luck, or whatever, to continue to see our guys drop the way that we are and to walk in that locker room and see LaMarcus in a boot – not just a swollen ankle – but a boot… It’s a credit to these guys.

Although it's not an issue that NBA teams want to face over the course of the season, the Portland Trail Blazers (21-13) have shown a remarkable ability to respond to injuries in a positive manner. Instead of an emotional letdown when LaMarcus Aldridge sprained his left ankle in the first quarter, the Trail Blazers put together a strong team effort to pull out the 103-99 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers (13-18).

We recently asked a few of the Trail Blazers players and coaches: "What is your New Year’s Resolution (or a resolution a teammate should consider)?" Read responses from LaMarcus Aldridge, Greg Oden, and Travis Outlaw.

Over the course of the NBA season, there will always be a couple of games where a team just can't seem to find its energy or spark. With the Portland Trail Blazers (20-13) having knocked off highly regarded teams like Dallas, San Antonio, and Denver during their four-game winning streak, there wasn't a huge sense of fear among fans when they saw the Philadelphia 76ers (8-22) on the schedule. However, after trailing by six points at the half, the 76ers used a tremendous second half performance to pull away for the 104-93 win at the Rose Garden.

“The first thing is that we didn’t establish ourselves on the defensive end all night long. I thought we played on our heels. We are a team that we have to be the aggressors from start to finish. Tonight, I thought we were on our heels and once again we’re down in the fourth quarter, we’re trying to make a run and come back. We’re not good enough to do that every night. We give up 61 points in the second half. They get 60 points in the paint. We never established ourselves defensively. Then offensively, some of the guys who were making shots late, didn’t make shots. I thought we tightened up a bit going down the stretch.”

“This team is playing basketball the right way, they’re playing together, and they’re playing 48 minutes. Tonight, 26 assists by these guys and defensively we tightened up…. We ran a lot of schemes early and felt that we wanted to go back to keeping Carmelo in front of us but I thought it was enough to just keep him guessing as far as defensively what we wanted to do. We had to clean up our rebounding – they really pounded us the first half on the boards and we’re much smaller without our centers. I thought our guys tonight did a good job of coming back and helping on the boards in the second half. Offensively, I thought we did a better job in the second half moving the ball. Brandon was hot but we didn’t have the ball movement that first half. We got it moving in the second half and it opened up some offense for Bayless and Blake and those guys.”
