When Trail Blazers, be it the players, coaches or front office, are quoted as saying they’re trying to “build something” here in Portland, they’re referring to things like building trust within the community or a team capable of winning an NBA championship. But for former Trail Blazer Kenny Carr, the term “building something” has taken on a much more literal interpretation.

Ever since the final seconds ticked off the clock during Game 6 of the opening round of the playoffs, the entire city of Portland has eagerly anticipated the return of the NBA. After an excruciating six months, the wait is finally over, as the Portland Trail Blazers will kick off the regular season on Tuesday night. Making the opener even more exciting is the fact that the Trail Blazers (0-0) will host the Houston Rockets (0-0), which happens to be the team that knocked Portland out of the playoffs last season.
Heading into the regular season opener, there is a sense of confidence and optimism about the potential of this team. One of the huge factors for this optimism is the tremendous improvement that Greg Oden displayed throughout the preseason. While there has never been any question about the natural gifts that Oden possesses, he had a very difficult time staying out of foul trouble last season. During the preseason, Oden showed the ability to stay on the court and play with great aggression and production. While Oden did average 8.9 points and 7.0 rebounds last season, there is hope that this season will see Oden continue to elevate his game to another level.
