After losing three consecutive games, and playing with a lack of emotion on both ends of the court, it looked as though the Portland Trail Blazers (28-21) were finally starting to feel the emotional toll of all the injuries they have been forced to deal with this season. However, an inspirational performance by Andre Miller in the 104-102 victory over the Dallas Mavericks may be the spark this team needed. The Trail Blazers will look to build on this momentum when they host the Charlotte Bobcats (24-22) on Monday night at the Rose Garden. Opening tip is scheduled for 7:00 PST.

It's been almost 11 years since Portland has won consecutive road games against the Dallas Mavericks. The way the Trail Blazers are currently playing without injured star Brandon Roy, achieving that feat could be even more difficult.
With their All-Star guard still sidelined, the Trail Blazers look to avoid a season-high fourth straight loss when they visit the Mavericks on Saturday night.

After spending much of the season defying the odds and playing great basketball despite all the injuries they have faced, it appears that the Portland Trail Blazers (27-21) have finally started to hit the wall. Although they were able to avoid another tough start, the Trail Blazers just ran out of energy in the final minutes of their 104-100 loss to the Houston Rockets (25-21).

Brandon Roy certainly has the stats of an All-Star. Ninth in the league in scoring at 23.1 points per game. One of just three players in the league averaging at least 23.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists. Third in PER among shooting guards. One of the finest clutch scorers in the game. Unquestioned leader of his team.

“There wasn’t much defense. We gave up a 37 point quarter. Our starts the last two games have been bad and to give up a 37 point quarter, they basically just dominated that quarter. Points in the paint – they just attacked us and we had no answer for that. Offensively, we missed our shots and I thought that probably affected us on the defensive end of the floor. You start thinking about that. They were just aggressive tonight.”

Over the course of the season, the Portland Trail Blazers (27-20) have had the unfortunate habit of falling behind early in games. While they have been able to overcome some of these early deficits, the Trail Blazers were unable to fight back from a 26 point second quarter deficit against the Utah Jazz (27-18). Although Portland was able to cut the lead to five in the fourth quarter, the Jazz ultimately pulled away for the 106-95 victory.

The spate of injuries that beset the Trail Blazers came thick and fast. From Batum to Outlaw to Oden to Przybilla, the hits just kept on coming, literally, in the season’s early going.
While the number of players on the injury report continued to pile up, somehow the losses didn’t. Nate McMillan kept his team together, getting inspired performances from unlikely sources – including his assistant coaches, who themselves stepped up to aide the hobbled coach when he tore an Achilles tendon.

It’s been 35 days since Joel Przybilla has had a good night’s sleep. After rupturing his right patella tendon during a gruesome fall to the floor in a December 22 game against the Dallas Mavericks, Przybilla has endured a surgery to reconstruct his knee and has to wear a brace that immobilizes his leg, even in bed.
But after a groggy Christmas and a painful New Year, Przybilla is back on his feet and entering the second stage of his comeback: rehabilitation.
