Trail Blazers Winning Streak Snapped In Sacramento

    The Trail Blazers (13-13) fell to the Sacramento Kings (9-18) in Sacramento 108-96. LaMarcus Aldridge played extremely well, scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds but the Trail Blazers didn't have enough defense to stop the Kings. Nicolas Batum also had a nice line of 17 points and eight assists.

    Marcus Thornton went off for the Kings with 22 points and the Kings collectively shot 55 percent from the field and a blistering 47 percent from the three-point line.

    The Trail Blazers started the game playing better than the Kings, although not very well. Both teams were very sloppy but the early action favored the Trail Blazers. The Trail Blazers led by six after the first quarter. The Kings dominated the second quarter (28-15) and every subsequent quarter.

    "It got away from us and we never really re-established ourselves," Terry Stotts said.

    The Trail Blazers showed signs of life throughout the game after the bad second quarter. In the third quarter the Trail Blazers tried to mount a run. The starting line-up of Damian Lillard (15 poitns, seven assists), Batum, Victor Claver (2 points, five rebounds), JJ Hickson (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Aldridge cut the Kings lead to three.

    However, when the Trail Blazers cut the lead to that, the Kings would answer. The Kings had answers for every Trail Blazer run. Stotts spoke about how the Trail Blazers lost their rhythm and they really never got it back. The Kings found a rhythm and never lost it.

    "In the second half, they shot the ball very well, over sixty percent," Stotts said. "We just couldn't keep up with them."

    Marcus Thornton and John Salmons (15 points) were taking and making some unbelievable fadeaway jumpers against good defense. Travis Outlaw helped get the Kings going and scored an incredibly efficient 15 points in 16 minutes on six of seven from the field.  It was evident that the shots they hit that were open helped give them confidence and when the defense was there, they could do nothing. The Kings had great offensive movement front second quarter on and despite the Trail Blazers efforts, could not be stopped. The Kings have now beaten the Trail Blazers two games in a row, the only team the Trail Blazers have lost to in the last seven games.

    The Trail Blazers next game is the day after Christmas against these same Kings at 7PM at the Rose Garden. It will be the final game of the series against the Kings. It will be shown on CSNNW and can be heard on 1190 AM and 102.3 FM.
