Trail Blazers Head Coach Terry Stotts

“Well, obviously we didn’t do a good enough job defensively. I think Dallas put on a flow clinic in the second half. The ball was moving, setting good screens, they made their shots, got to the rim, and the game kind of got away from us in the middle of the fourth quarter.”

Describe O.J. Mayo and how he’s played the past two games…
“He’s a talented player. Before I got the job here I had the opportunity to go to San Antonio and work with him and he’s a very talented two guard. He can shoot, he can post, he can drive, he can pass, he’s tough, [and] so I think people in Dallas are going to be very pleased with him.”

How much better is the Dallas offense with Collison pushing the ball the way he does? “Well, it’s certainly different. Dallas has been a great offensive team for years. But, it’s a different look for them, and when they get Dirk back that’s going to make them really potent. But, having a guard like Collison, and Mayo can also do some ball handling, and when Roddy [Beaubois] they’re going to be a very explosive team.”

    Talk about Lillard’s game tonight
“He missed some open looks that he’s been making. He saw some pick-and-roll defense. They [Mavs] were very aggressive in the second half; blitzing and trying to take the ball out of his hands. And we anticipated them doing it. We didn’t have necessarily enough time to prepare for it. But, I think more teams will do that and it’s one of the adjustments that we need to anticipate.”

Their hot shooting all on you guys, or was it a little bit of them shooting hot?
“Well, they’ve got a lot of good shooters. O.J. [Mayo] made seven threes in the game before, so it’s not like he can’t shoot. They’ve been shooting a lot of threes and they’re making threes. So, that’s kind of their personality right now. And they space the floor really well, they’ve got penetrators, and it’s an effective offense.”

Were you O.K. with your close outs on the shooters?
“Yeah, a lot of the threes are created off penetration and other actions, and I give Dallas credit; they have an effective offense, they’ve got playmakers that make plays, and they made their shots tonight.”
