Preview: Trail Blazers Continue Home Streak Against Mavericks

The Portland Trail Blazers have regained their strength, winning seven of their last 10 games and seven straight at home, when they host the Dallas Mavericks Sunday at the Rose Garden. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 PM.

Portland bounced back from Wednesday’s loss in New Orleans with a 98-91 victory at home against the Western Conference’s fourth seed Oklahoma City Thunder behind 32 points and eight rebounds from LaMarcus Aldridge.

The Trail Blazers protected the ball to a season-low four turnovers, while the Thunder were forced to 14 as Marcus Camby retuned to the starting rotation after coming off the bench in nine games. Camby had two points and five rebounds.

Nicolas Batum led Portland’s reserves with 19 points and six rebounds, and Andre Miller and Gerald Wallace each had 13 points to move one-half game ahead of Memphis for sixth place in the West.

The Tail Blazers will close out the series against the Mavericks, looking to split the series for only the second time in the past seven seasons.

On March 15, Portland avoided its third loss to Dallas after Aldridge turned in 30 points and eight rebounds in front of a home crowd to move past the Mavericks 104-101, which set the series at 2-1.

Brandon Roy scored 21 points off the bench, Wesley Matthews added 18 points, including four 3-pointers, and Fernandez chipped in with 12 points that started a three-game streak at home for the Trail Blazers.

Dirk Nowitzki hit 9-of-9 from the free-throw line to total 28 points and 11 rebounds for Dallas, which shot 59.7 percent from the floor in the loss. Shawn Marion had 18 points, Rodrigue Beaubois (16), Jason Terry (14) and Tyson Chandler (12). Jason Kidd had a game-high 14 assists for the Mavericks to claim a 30-19 edge in the category.

After previously winning five straight contests, Dallas fell in its next two matchups on the road 110-82 against the Lakers Thursday and Sunday’s 99-92 loss at Golden State.

Against the Warriors, the Mavericks were outscored 24-17 in the third quarter as Golden State’s Monte Ellis led all scorers with 32 points.

Dallas’ bench carried the bulk of the scoring with Marion leading the way with 21 points and Terry recording 17. Jose Barea had a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists, while Nowitzki ended with 16 points.

The Mavericks conclude a six-game road trip in Portland, where the Trail Blazers will be without Greg Oden (knee) and Elliot Williams (knee).
