     Portland Trail Blazers
forward/center LaMarcus Aldridge was named the Kia NBA Western Conference Player of the Month for February, it was announced today by the NBA.

Aldridge becomes the third player in franchise history to win the award and first since Clyde Drexler claimed the honor in November of 1991. Kelvin Ransey won the award in March of 1981.

"It's an honor to be named player of the month, something I will always remember," said Aldridge. "But I wouldn't have won it without my teammates and coaches, and I want to thank them as we work to build on last month's success and focus on making a playoff run."

Aldridge, 25, averaged 27.8 points (56.3% FG, 83.2% FT), 9.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.67 steals and 1.58 blocks in 12 February games, guiding Portland to an 8-4 mark that included wins over San Antonio, Chicago, New Orleans and Denver.

"I'm really happy to see LaMarcus rewarded for all of his hard work and commitment to the game," said General Manager Rich Cho. "He's taken his play to another level this season and is playing the best basketball of his career. He's now widely regarded as one of the best power forwards in the league."

During the month, Aldridge led all Western Conference players in scoring (27.8) and points/rebounds/assists (39.3). His 56.3 percent mark from the floor ranked third among all players in the West.

A fifth-year Trail Blazer, Aldridge became the first player in franchise history to score at least 36 points in three straight games Feb. 7-13, when he earned Western Conference Player of the Week honors. Aldridge scored a career-high 42 points in a 109-103 win over Chicago on Feb. 7, following up a 40-point scoring game in a 99-86 triumph over San Antonio on Feb. 1.

For the season, Aldridge is averaging a team-high 22.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.18 steals and 1.23 blocks, while starting all 60 of Portland’s games. He has led the Trail Blazers in scoring 28 times and rebounding on 26 occasions. Aldridge has scored 20 points or more in 36 contests, including 10 games of 30-plus points.

The Kia NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month are part of a series of on-court performance awards called “The Kia NBA Performance Awards.” The series, currently in its fourth season, is part of a multiyear marketing partnership between Kia Motors America and the NBA, and includes four of the league’s most prestigious year-end honors: Most Valuable Player Award, Defensive Player of the Year, Sixth Man Award, and Most Improved Player. Kia Motors is the Official Automotive Partner of the NBA and the all-new Kia Optima is the league’s Official Vehicle.
