A lot of the undergrads and international players have decided against declaring for the draft early. Usually when that happens, the depth of the draft is not the greatest.

There is always a lot of speculation on winners and losers on the day after the draft and the day after the trade deadline.

The draft day after, is almost impossible to judge because you’re dealing with a college player coming into a team of Pro’s. In order to judge you have to speculate on his potential on his new team – whether his skills are needed, will he get enough minutes to show his ability. It’s a crap shoot to judge after even a year’s time, let alone the next day.

A hot topic around this time of year is predicting playoff positioning and final standings. I have done my research and determined how the Western Conference will end up at the end of the season. Each team has about three games that could be game changers and affect their final record.
Wednesday's practice for the Blazers was most interesting – both Brandon Roy and Marcus Camby came back to practice. They had a 30 minute limit but did take part in all the physical full court and half court activities. In fact, Marcus Camby looked like he had not missed a minute of games or practices. He was rebounding, passing out of the high post and moving around like he did before he was injured.

When I agreed to write my blog, the last team I dreamed of writing about was the Lakers.

Through the years their arrogance of being good and their ability to finish ahead of the Blazers in the West really turned me off. Their media staff my first 10 years on the job only talked to me twice. They were too busy getting tickets for their stars or supplying the national media with stats on how great they were. At the start of the year on our courtside prediction show, I think LA got three votes to win again, Boston one and of course I had to go with the Heat, more on hope they could beat the Lakers than really thinking that. Now that we are over 50 games into the season it's time to look at the powers again.

There is a lot of talk around about the return of Brandon Roy to the Blazers active roster.

A lot of Blazer fans can hardly wait for that to happen. At the same time there are some who like the way the Blazers are playing now and think that the return of Brandon might somehow change the way this team is working together.

Let me say, I agree with how this team is playing without Brandon is pleasant to the eye, but the goal of everyone should be to be a championship contender.

If you add a healthy Roy and Greg Oden with a greatly improved Aldridge + Batum, you are in the chase for the Cup.
