Roy Out For Monday Night's Game Against Thunder
04/12/10
Written by:

Brandon Roy will be unavailable for Monday night's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder according to Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan. Roy sustained a bone bruise to his right knee during the first quarter of Sunday afternoon's 91-88 victory against the Lakers in Los Angeles.
Roy, who underwent an MRI Sunday after the team returned to Portland, will be reevaluated by doctors later tonight. His status for Wednesday night's regular season finale against the Golden State Warriors is unknown.
"Of course (Roy) is bothered by (missing Monday night's game) but it is what it is," said McMillan. "He has that injury. We're going to hold him tonight and we'll reevaluate him tomorrow."
McMillan declined to say who would start in Roy's place.
The Trail Blazers are 7-8 with Roy out of the lineup this season. Portland might be better prepared to play through injuries than any other team in the league after a season in which players missed over 300 games with various maladies.
"Our guys have been faced with this all year long, so the challenge is Brandon is out," said McMillan. "Someone has to step in and fill that position. They've done that all year long. We've been able to respond and respond well to injuries or guys being out of games."
Martell Webster and Rudy Fernandez filled in admirably for Roy, who sat out the second half of Sunday's victory against the Lakers. Webster finished with 16 points while making three free-throws with 3.1 seconds to play with put the Trail Blazers up for good. Fernandez added 9 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds.
"It was good to see shots fall for (Webster and Fernandez), but minutes certainly help in guys getting opportunities," said McMillan. "A lot of times when Brandon is in there, the minutes are limited. They did a good job last night once again. When we had a guy go down, they were able to step out and make up for that."
