LaMarcus' game-winner caps Trail Blazers comeback win

    The Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Dallas Mavericks 99-97 in overtime, Friday, behind 30 points from Raymond Felton and a game-winning buzzer beater by LaMarcus Aldridge at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

    With 3.7 seconds left in the extra period, Aldridge took the inbound pass from Nicolas Batum on the left wing, took two dribbles to his right and buried the step-back 17-foot jumper over Brendan Haywood at the left elbow.

    "LaMarcus hit a big shot," said Portland coach Kaleb Canales. "Big time player, big time shot."

    Combined with Wednesday's 101-88 victory over New Jersey at the Rose Garden, Friday's win in Dallas marked the first back-to-back wins by the Trail Blazers since defeating Sacramento and Memphis consecutively on Jan. 23 and 24, a span of 36 games.

    Portland (27-29) trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half and by a dozen at the break but came roaring back late in the third quarter, finishing the period on a 16-0 run to lead 74-66 headed into the final stanza.

    Felton led the charge during the run, scoring 12 of the 16 Trail Blazers points on 3-of-3 from longe range along with an old-fashioned three-point play. He added seven rebounds, six assists and two steals while converting 12-of-18 from the floor, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.

    "(Felton) had a good shooting night. He got hot," said Mavericks guard Delonte West. "This is the NBA and when a guy gets rolling it’s hard to stop."

    Dallas (31-25) responded with a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter and led 77-74 with 8:33 remaining. Portland battled back to an 82-81 lead at the six minute mark and would never trail again, though Dallas would tie the game at 91-91 to force overtime on Shawn Marion's driving layup with 15.9 seconds left in regulation.

    Aldridge followed Felton with 25 points and 12 rebounds, including six of Portland's eight overtime points to seal the final margin. The only other Trail Blazers player to log double-digit scoring was Jamal Crawford with 14 points.

    The Mavericks were led by Dirk Nowitzki's 23 points and 14 rebounds, followed by Jason Terry's 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting as six Dallas players scored in double figures.

    Portland completes its road back-to-back Saturday, 5:30 p.m., at the Milwaukee Bucks. The game can be seen locally on Comcast SportsNet (Comcast channel 37). 750 AM The Game and NBA Audio League Pass will have the play-by-play call.
