Preview: Third Series Win Keeps Happy Times Rolling

    The Portland Trail Blazers have beaten the San Antonio Spurs in two consecutive series and on Monday, they will look for their third when they travel to the AT&T Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 PM.

    The Trail Blazers have won eight of the last 10 matchups against the Spurs, including Friday’s 98-96 win at the Rose Garden, where Nicolas Batum completed an alley-oop from Andre Miller to beat the buzzer with 0.9 seconds left.

    Batum and Miller both scored 21 points and Gerald Wallace had a double-double with 14 points and game-high 10 rebounds to give Portland a 2-1 series lead.

    Miller also dished out eight assists, while Wesley Matthews ended with 15 points and LaMarcus Aldridge put in 14 and eight rebounds.

    Manu Ginobili led San Antonio with 21 points and seven assists, while Tony Parker had 15 points and eight turnovers after giving up a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter.

    The Trail Blazers jumped off on a three-game road trip on Sunday in Oklahoma City, where Wallace scored a season-high 40 points and seven rebounds, but was held off by Russell Westbrook’s 28 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Thunder in the 99-90 loss.

    LaMarcus Aldridge recorded 20 points and seven rebounds, and also raised $20,000 to the Direct Relief International’s Japan Relief and Recover Fund after donating $1,000 for every point he scored in Sunday’s game.

    Portland has struggled on the road, losing four straight, but visiting San Antonio, the Trail Blazers have split four trips over two seasons.

    The Spurs haven’t been much better on the road, falling in their last three matchups, including the 111-104 loss against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday.

    George Hill tied a career-high 30 points and Tony Parker added 20 and six assists as San Antonio hit its worst losing streak of the season. 

    But even worse, the Spurs may be without another key scorer.  Ginobili, San Antonio’s leading scorer with 17.8 points per game, might be the next name to join the Spurs’ injury list, which already has Tim Duncan.

    Ginobili suffered a left quad contusion in the first half of Monday’s loss after being struck with a knee from Memphis’ Marc Gasol. Ginobili returned in the second half, but left the game after totaling just two points in 19 minutes. 

    At home, San Antonio has posted a four-game winning streak that Portland looks to snap when the team competes in its second of three road contests.
    The Trail Blazers will be without Greg Oden and Elliot Williams, who are both out with knee injures.
