Greatest Trail Blazers Teams Of All-Time Bracket

The Portland Trail Blazers have had some very special teams. Through 40 seasons in Portland, the franchise has seen 27 playoff berths, five division titles, three Western Conference Championships and one NBA Title. Not bad for four decades worth of work.

But which team is the best in Trail Blazers history? Does the 1976-77 Championship team automatically win that distinction by virtue of being the only team to win a ring? Were the teams lead by Clyde Drexler and Terry Porter in the late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s more talented? How about the 1999-00 team that came within one quarter of making the NBA Championship series? All things being equal, were they the greatest team to play in Portland?

Now is your chance to answer these questions. Throughout the remainder of the season, you’ll have the chance to vote on which team was your favorite Trail Blazers squad of all time. Each week you’ll have the opportunity to vote in a single-elimination tournament pitting the franchises’ 39 teams against each other to determine which roster stands above the others as the best in Portland Trail Blazers history.

Use whatever criteria you like. Do you believe that the team with the most wins deserves the top spot? Vote accordingly. Think playoff performance is what matters most? Base you decision on that. Are you a fan of individual players and personalities more than teams? Pick based off of that. The choice is yours.

The teams were ranked 1 through 39 (we’re not counting this season as it’s currently in progress). Preferential seeding was given to teams that advanced farthest in the playoffs. Teams that didn’t make the playoffs were seeded based on regular season record. Tiebreakers were determined by regular season record, division standing, and points per game rank, in that order.

(So for example, the 2003-04 team that went 41-41 was ranked above the 2007-08 team with the same record. Both teams finished third in the division. Due to the ’03-’04 team being ranked 21st that season in points per game, which was better than the 28th rank the ’07-’08 team finished with, the ’03-’04 team was given a better seed.)
