Trail Blazers To Host 'Snapper' Jones Tribute Night

    26-year veteran broadcaster will be honored on April 1

    PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Trail Blazers will honor Steve “Snapper” Jones with a special tribute night on Sunday, April 1 as the Trail Blazers take on the Minnesota Timberwolves and former Trail Blazers Head Coach Rick Adelman.
     
    "Steve Jones dedicated the better part of his career to the Trail Blazers,” said Trail Blazers President Larry Miller. "He's never really been properly recognized by the organization for his many contributions and that's what this tribute is about -- a chance for the team and our fans to acknowledge and thank Steve for all he has done for Trail Blazers basketball."
     
    Miller will join Trail Blazers Founder Harry Glickman in recognizing Jones during a presentation at center court prior to tipoff.
     
    Jones, who spent 26 seasons in the Trail Blazers’ broadcast booth, will bring his famous voice back to the microphone during the second quarter, joining Trail Blazers broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice during the live broadcast.
     
    A Portland-native, Jones retired from his playing career as a Trail Blazers in 1976. The following season he became a commentator for CBS while also serving as a broadcast analyst for the Trail Blazers. He was part of the CBS crew that called Portland’s championship-clinching game against Philadelphia in 1977.
     
    Jones also served as an analyst on “NBA on NBC” for 13 years, including the network’s coverage of the 1992 Olympic Games. His broadcast career also includes stints with ESPN/ABC, TNT, TBS and USA.
     
    Jones will be available to the media from 5 p.m. – 5:20 p.m. outside the Harry Glickman Media Room at the Rose Garden.
